  1. Consider the 550 which has built in attitude indicator. Great for backup AI and synthetic vision.
  2. Yes try and start with short flights. My dog does fine even though when I first got her it was a 2 hour flight home after only knowing her for about 2 hours on the ground. She will jump into the plane on command. Most of the time she goes to the back seat every now and then she gets into my seat and asks if she can have the controls today. That was her first flight in 2014
  3. What alternator did you get? Are you having wiring issues or voltage regulator setting issues? The kit should have basic wiring diagrams and introductions.
  4. The screws have nuts on the back side. Mine are polished . Paint stripper should work
  5. I thought the whole idea was making a fuel the FAA would certfiy as a direct replacement to 100LL.j Why an STC? If it is so great the FAA can certify it for all aircraft and no STC would be necessary. I know some have auto gas STCs but that is using a gasoline not made for aviation in aviation. This is being developed for aviation there is a difference.
  6. Cool, I flew into Laramie about 3 years ago on my way to Idaho Falls. Nice airport and I spent the night in Laramie. My first experience at an airport above 2500 feet. I'll be headed to Phoenix next month.
  7. MB to SB I don't know what the difference is. Ask them what are the benefits and what is the costs for the upgrade. Sometimes we get "better and there is not noticeable benefits. On the other hand the benefit maybe down the road in less maintenance. However, I just did my engine and went with the Bendix mags. I didn't want to deal with electronic ignition at the same time as changing the engine but someday I will.
  8. fly it there!! even if you only get to fly it once while you are there that's more than it will be flown back in VA.
  9. once you get it off you can measure it most likely GL-30-HD, however this one is 2"ODx1/8" thick. Mine on a 67F and has a different collator, the gasket is 1/16" thick so I get Brown aircraft supply to make the special 1/16" thick. I didn't see anything in the parts manual. gas collator seal 2" O.D. x 1/8" buna 1/6" thick special GL-30-HD Brown
  10. Most emergency procedures for our small planes are quite similar. Change the names to protect the innocent, and use one from another plane thinking about how you want to handle an emergency.
  11. Sensorcon has a new aviation version of the CO monitor. AV8 Inspector Collection – Sensorcon - Sensing Solutions by Molex
  12. Great little museum. I stumbled on it in 2017 when I was working in Idaho Falls. I was headed up to Yellowstone and saw the sign and turned in. They had a pancake breakfast and air show going on that day too. I met a fellow MSer while there too. I do not remember the Blue Angel plane it must be a new addition. The cobras were impressive and interesting. Not that they are open for tours but there is an outfit, Pacific Fighters, at Idaho Falls , KIDA, that rebuilds old WWII fighters. One day after flying I walked down the ramp to their shop and talked to the guys for a while. Very interesting. One plane they were rebuilding appeared to have a few original pieces, data plate and mostly new pieces built around it. It would appear there is plenty of money in growing potatoes .
  13. scan the ad and post it as a PDF would be interesting to read
  14. on the actuator that the chain drives from the trim wheel there is an adjustment stop item 15. There is a set screw that keep this stop in place. If the set screw loosens the stop can rotate on the threaded shaft and limit your trim travel.
  15. broken hobbs meter is not all bad now you can fly for free.
  16. Climb does get slow when loaded close to gross as you get to 10,000 or above as you probably noticed. Otherwise no reason you can't go above 130 if you have O2. Biggest concern would be icing conditions we are not well equipped for that.
  17. These things are worse than rabbits they're everywhere. Private space travel is getting hectic.
  18. Go ahead and remove it. It is one of those extra parts that always work their way into machinery or left over when assembling your kid's toys
  19. We have that engine, or one very similar, in our Enstrom 480B de-rated to 277HP. We burn about 28 GPH in this application. 90 gallons on board gives us right at 3 hours duration. You would need the 130 gallon extended range tanks to make it work IMHO and that would be 4 hours of fan running time. Now if I could go twice as fast then a 3 hour flight would have a nice range but I do not think you would get 2x cruise speed. On a typical flight for me about 490NM, going 100kts faster than I currently flying my flight time would be reduced from 3.5 to 2.0. I would burn about 60 gallon as opposed to the approximately 35 gallons I burn now. Getting there 1.5 hours sooner very good the extra 25 gallons not so much but speed costs $. Good luck and hopefully, the FAA will let you keep it on there after and fly it normally. However, I fear the conversion costs would be prohibitive for most Mooney owners JMHO. I do like the idea though.
  20. This is always an issue on long flights. I fly the first hour on one tank and then run the second tank to empty. i.e. when the engine begins to lose power and switch back. Then I know all usable fuel is in one tank in my case that is usually 17 gallons or about 1.9 hours of flying at cruise. I evaluate my landing conditions at my destination and ETE to get there. If I have to shoot an approach I already have a pre planned stop for fuel which is close to the area where I switch back to the first tank. If the weather is clear and no approach is necessary I will continue on if I calculate I will still have about 10 gallons upon landing.
  21. you need better friends that will fly your Mooney for you.
  22. I'd just go with the color blind thing. Looks grey to me or is gray?
  23. You are welcome to come over and work on my dozer anytime you want if you miss looking like you just rolled around in a mud puddle filled with oil and grease. I wash my plane with water several times a year sometimes with soap sometimes without.
  24. @Lisa Welcome aboard. You will enjoy your new plane. Hopefully you have been lurking around here for a while reading about purchasing an airplane and you have researched the topic. My first plane was a 1964 M20E hence my Mooney Space MS handle. Good luck I'm always glad to see an older underutilized plane get some TLC and back into the air. Fly safe, well and often once you get it cleaned up. Post some PICS or you really didn't buy one.
  25. We fly GA because we want to. We know and accept that the cost is more than commercial. We also accept that the time we save flying GA is often used maintaining our precious magic carpets unless you are not a member of the CB club and just write checks to pull out, maintain, clean your airplane and put it back into the hangar. We can go on our schedule within reason due to weather. We can land closer to our destination most of the time. We do not need to deal with the airlines over refunds for canceling a flight. Most of all we do not need to deal with the BS from TSA and the silly mask requirements.
