  1. Yeah airplane and hangar made it through IDA, minor damage to hangar, no damage at my house. Now to keep the generators running . I was worried about plane, couldn't fly it out mechanical issues . Hangar was almost in direct path center was about 10 to 15 miles west of hangar .
  2. yes we have Katrina's unruly 16 year old daughter coming to visit on Katrina's birthday. No sweet 16 party

  4. Well I'm experiencing the effects of IDA on the ground here at my house center passing about 30 miles from me.
  5. does the DHX give you GPS approaches? I didn't think it did.
  6. It was interesting flying home Saturday I experienced a governor failure in flight. Run up went well when I cycled the prop before takeoff I was climbing with lower than usual power since I was waiting for a second plane to catch up and the governor was controlling the prop After we were in cruise for a while I noticed that I could not apply full power and the RPMs were going up i.e. losing prop control. I was at a lower power setting than normal since the other plane is slower. As the flight progressed I had to reduce power to control the RPMs, and the governor was doing very little All other engine parameters were good, oil pressure, temp, EGT, CHTs etc. I was able to only maintain 14" of MP and keep the engine below 2700RPM I was ale to complete the flight at 100kts GS After I landed and before shutting down the engine I tried cycling the prop at 1800RM and nothing The engine only has 30SMOH, prop was OH and the governor (PCU5000) was OH, I installed it last year and it only has 130 hours total on it. I checked the prop cable and it was functioning fine I drained the oil and the finger screen was clean, oil filter was clean I removed the governor and the filter gasket was clean as well The governor is being sent back for check and OH
  7. 4-6" wider cabin on the Mooney would be nice don really need 8" or more. Adding 3" more between the firewall and the engine for maintenance would be great I do still like retract gear. I think it just looks better. Yes if the gear was designed to be hanging out in the wind it would be slicker and less draggy therefore not as big of a penalty we get with the gear down.
  8. I listen to ATC tune in VORs on NAV2 and try to know where I am while flying the magenta line.. I slide my seat back kick off my shoes have a snack assuming the flight attendant is on board and working.
  9. without the garmin 1000 sure then it would probably be 150k less.
  10. Consider the 550 which has built in attitude indicator. Great for backup AI and synthetic vision.
  11. Yes try and start with short flights. My dog does fine even though when I first got her it was a 2 hour flight home after only knowing her for about 2 hours on the ground. She will jump into the plane on command. Most of the time she goes to the back seat every now and then she gets into my seat and asks if she can have the controls today. That was her first flight in 2014
  12. What alternator did you get? Are you having wiring issues or voltage regulator setting issues? The kit should have basic wiring diagrams and introductions.
  13. The screws have nuts on the back side. Mine are polished . Paint stripper should work
  14. I thought the whole idea was making a fuel the FAA would certfiy as a direct replacement to 100LL.j Why an STC? If it is so great the FAA can certify it for all aircraft and no STC would be necessary. I know some have auto gas STCs but that is using a gasoline not made for aviation in aviation. This is being developed for aviation there is a difference.
  15. Cool, I flew into Laramie about 3 years ago on my way to Idaho Falls. Nice airport and I spent the night in Laramie. My first experience at an airport above 2500 feet. I'll be headed to Phoenix next month.
  16. MB to SB I don't know what the difference is. Ask them what are the benefits and what is the costs for the upgrade. Sometimes we get "better and there is not noticeable benefits. On the other hand the benefit maybe down the road in less maintenance. However, I just did my engine and went with the Bendix mags. I didn't want to deal with electronic ignition at the same time as changing the engine but someday I will.
  17. fly it there!! even if you only get to fly it once while you are there that's more than it will be flown back in VA.
  18. once you get it off you can measure it most likely GL-30-HD, however this one is 2"ODx1/8" thick. Mine on a 67F and has a different collator, the gasket is 1/16" thick so I get Brown aircraft supply to make the special 1/16" thick. I didn't see anything in the parts manual. gas collator seal 2" O.D. x 1/8" buna 1/6" thick special GL-30-HD Brown
  19. Most emergency procedures for our small planes are quite similar. Change the names to protect the innocent, and use one from another plane thinking about how you want to handle an emergency.
  20. Sensorcon has a new aviation version of the CO monitor. AV8 Inspector Collection – Sensorcon - Sensing Solutions by Molex
  21. Great little museum. I stumbled on it in 2017 when I was working in Idaho Falls. I was headed up to Yellowstone and saw the sign and turned in. They had a pancake breakfast and air show going on that day too. I met a fellow MSer while there too. I do not remember the Blue Angel plane it must be a new addition. The cobras were impressive and interesting. Not that they are open for tours but there is an outfit, Pacific Fighters, at Idaho Falls , KIDA, that rebuilds old WWII fighters. One day after flying I walked down the ramp to their shop and talked to the guys for a while. Very interesting. One plane they were rebuilding appeared to have a few original pieces, data plate and mostly new pieces built around it. It would appear there is plenty of money in growing potatoes .
  22. scan the ad and post it as a PDF would be interesting to read
  23. on the actuator that the chain drives from the trim wheel there is an adjustment stop item 15. There is a set screw that keep this stop in place. If the set screw loosens the stop can rotate on the threaded shaft and limit your trim travel.
  24. broken hobbs meter is not all bad now you can fly for free.
  25. Climb does get slow when loaded close to gross as you get to 10,000 or above as you probably noticed. Otherwise no reason you can't go above 130 if you have O2. Biggest concern would be icing conditions we are not well equipped for that.
