Funny I like how both men in the plane duck instead of flying the plane. I hate to be a Monday morning quarter back but he could have flown between the trestles and still crashed it would have been more believable. Well I digress and my career as a critic never really took off.

How Many Hours PIC to Transition into a Mooney (Poll)?
1964-M20E replied to 201er's topic in General Mooney Talk
The only thing more difficult flying a Mooney over a C172 is putting the gear down unless you have a 172RG then there are not differences if you know how to fly. -
I know it is required to have it in the plane. However, how many people have actually used the compass deviation card ever even during PPL training? I can't recall ever using it. I have rarely used the magnetic deviation lines on sectionals since here in New Orleans it is only 1 degree W at the current time. A couple of years ago it was 0 and when I got may PPL it was only 2 maybe 3 E.

Are you going to Sun 'n Fun?

Attendance still to be determined if my engine swap is completed. I'm still working on OH of the spare engine but real work is getting in the way. -
The engine does not need to come off but it is a PIA to RR and is very tight. If you replace it with the PCU governor the new one goes in much easier.

With standard tanks is is not that big of a deal with one full and one empty. Now if you had the extended range tanks it may cause more issues. I generally run the first tank for 1 hour that gives me right at 10 gallons switch to the second tank and run it as long as needed until it is empty or 30 minutes from my destination which ever comes first. Then switch back to the first tank and get ready to land.

the 149l has extra mounting bosses that may need to be removed for fit. i had to do that on my F.

Double up buttercup or how to get rid of your side gap
1964-M20E replied to bradp's topic in General Mooney Talk
Wear a mask if you feel you need one. All should not be forced to submit. The death rate for earth is 100% everyone will certainly die. We all want to put the odds in our favor for a long prosperous time here. Should any of us figure out how not to die that could be either a blessing or a curse but that would be up to you to decide. -
Plan for the expense get the plane and fly it like you stole it the first year 100+ hours. Then shop for a good discount and keep flying above 80 hours a year.

I have brought my dog along at 100 and 110 no issues. Generally after takeoff and once you are settle into the climb and or cruise they will settle down. Some will stay lower around 80 and I have seen some actually have an O2 mask for fido.

Well had my second moderna shot Friday. Sore arm and felt tired on Saturday but otherwise nothing to speak of. Of course Saturday was a nasty cold drizzly day so sitting around and watching TV was not a bad idea anyway.

Yes and at about 1MM+ vaccinations a day the vaccination rate far outpaces the infection rate. By the end of Feb we should be up to 48MM+/- vaccinations So with approximately 52 million exposed or vaccinated currently we have about 15% population exposed. Then add in another 20% of the tested cases for those that may have had it but did not get tested that about 5MM so we are approaching 60MM people exposed and less likely or unlikely to get it now this is approaching 20% of the population. These are rough numbers remember I'm an engineer I get things close not exact.

Rudy did my AI a couple of years ago great service. ASI looks nice larger numbers for aging pilots.

IFR Ely, Nevada to Boise, Idaho
1964-M20E replied to Ross Statham's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Went there a few years ago when I was in Idaho Falls for work. As a flatlander it was a new experience to fly around with all those rocks pointing into the sky. The route by the OP looks just a good as any other. -
Fluctuating Oil Pressure Indications M20R
1964-M20E replied to MatthiasArnold's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
it is possible to be the pressure sensing unit I had this happen to me years ago scared the SH&%$%^& out of me when it first happened a altitude and bitchin betty saying check engine oil pressure and temperature and red lights flashing. After changing the sensor the problem went away. -
Check with Sue she's in Minneapolis she used to work on my plane when she was in New Orleans. I can't remember if she had her own set or just used mine. I'll PM you her number.

If you are not leaking or using oil and everything else is looking good. Keep flying it. I'm doing an engine now because the one on my plane is leaking oil and not getting any better only about 1700 hours on the engine but I have flown it since 2012 and put about 800 hours on it. Leaking at cylinder bases and a the case split. The sawdust I keep putting in it doesn't seem to be slowing the oil leaks but when I take the filter off the oil is like black toothpaste coming out and doesn't drip down the back of the engine..

Actually this is pretty impressive. Before now only in science fiction shows like Start Trek could the doctor come up with a cure, antidote or vaccine in hours, days or weeks (still the realm of science fiction). However, now in a short 9 months we have come up with 2 vaccines for this virus and a third on it's heels. Along with that other places around the word have been developing vaccines as well.

Today From uAvionx. Pretty much the same information provided above. I sent this: I pre-purchased 2 AV-30s and received them a couple of months ago. I was preparing to start the installation and recently heard about a disturbing issue on the AV-30. It appears that in the DG mode it precesses quite quickly. While bench testing the unit in 40 minutes the heading changed 180 degrees (270 to 90) You can actually sit and watch the heading change. I would have thought such a fatal flaw in the device would have been corrected when it was still in the experiential stage. This sound as much like a hardware issue as a software issue. My vacuum DG will only precess 5 degrees in 15 to 20 minutes in cruise. If the AV-30 was equal or better than that it would be acceptable. What is UAvionix doing to address this situation? UAvionix response: We have an update that is coming out. We have released it to experimental units. The AV-30-C has gone through rigorous bench and flight testing to achieve certification, but it is a new instrument being installed in a wide variety of aircraft, new environments, and being exposed to a variety of installation and operating procedures. When the unit is on the bench it is easy to induce calibration errors by moving the unit around while aligning or while turning on or shutting off. In the software update, there will be a hard calibration so that these accidental calibration errors can be corrected. The software update also takes into account the corrections that the pilot inputs. To help your unit not drift on the bench as is right now you would need to cycle power a few times and not move it during those times.

Still disappointed with the DG performance of the AV-30 and it's still not installed. Frying bigger fish right now. However, this does show you how much FAA certification means. I have always advocated that the FAA should back off tremendously on avionics installed in our planes and I still back that position 100% now more that ever since they certified the AV-30 as primary DG and it can't even hold a heading for 5 minutes. Is this Boeing all over again??? Certified does not mean better!!!

maybe skip the in motion hull coverage. That way your hull is covered when sitting at the hangar I would wait 5 years and see what the insurance company says at that point.

I received my first shot already and go back for the second in Feb. I'm not afraid of Covid. I only got the shot because of my association with the local sheriff's office and fire department. Otherwise I would not worry about getting vaccine. I think the media has many people in the country hyper fixated on coivd and over reacting. Yes it's there but it is not a death sentence if you catch it like the media is presenting it. As for the FAA and their acceptance of the vaccine I do not care what they say. If someone wants the vaccine get it and move on. As for any requirements that you have the vacation to travel, passport, work, shop etc. ABSOLUTELY NOT and I won't' get into the mask thing.

Sit down order your food and drink be merry and then pay in cash or credit when you leave most places don't ask for money before they serve you. If they refuse to accept cash or credit get as close as you can in cash and when you leave or put it in their hand and say here's my payment good day mam and walk out. They can't claim you didn't pay you put money in their hand.
