  1. Already gave them lots of money. Still looking for true happiness...
  2. Recap please regarding txi and gtn.
  3. I talked with the rep at S&F. The normal repairs are in the 2-3k range. However, he said the exchanges are priced at 5k now. Not sure if that was to say the future exchanges will be the max upgrade or not. They should have a lot of parts coming out of the upgrades... Going back to the OP. One option might be to buy an E5 unit and plug it into your current wiring (swap out the config module as well). Put your order in for the max upgrade and send in the broken unit when they’re ready. Decide which one to keep when the time comes.
  4. I pretty much feel like I bend over buying anything aviation (or medical, etc) related. Even products with the big Apple stamped on them get people ruffled up...I just wait until the price drops to 1/3 new (~3 years). Not everyone needs to be a zealot with a g3x in front of them. However, I would be in line to get one if it was needed.
  5. I notice the tail wagging all the time in the short body. I seldom notice it in the long body. Still not convinced it’s worth the upgrade price.
  6. The 175 with com would be 4K cheaper than the 635. It could be available direct bypassing the Garmin dealer install. Doesn’t make sense to me but Garmin certified the g3x which totally undercut the txi. It would be a hot seller...something the 635 never was.
  7. This is my worry going forward. In your position I’m not sure what I’d do. Can’t really go without a pfd till next February if you wait for the max upgrade window. The repair charges are normally in the 2-5k range which would be painful only to get back a non max display. I’d push for a repair that included a premium for a max upgrade. Definitely call the dealer early Monday morning to make the deal before the end of the month.
  8. I use wash and wax all (blue) on the aircraft. Oil of orange (diluted from concentrate) to cut the grime on the belly. Old tks fluid to scribe the panels.
  9. I agree but remember with a more expensive airframe the “necessary” upgrades will be easier to justify.
  10. Both look like nice options. The shop is only charging an extra $400 (labor) for the 375 which requires another waas antenna installed and integration with a nav head and the 750. A lot of extra work for a few dollars. I’d have him sharpen the pencil for the 345 or go with the 375 at that price. I do have to say the 175/375 would be very attractive if they added a comm unit. A perfect backup to a 650/750.
  11. The hours since overhaul do not matter as much for the fuel system as the time sitting without use. (From my experience) I’d start with easy stuff like cleaning all the injectors if that hasn’t been done lately.
  12. So off topic but if my 3rd class is 2 years old and I turn 40 this summer is it good for another 3 years? The exam was taken before it extended from 36 to 60 months.
  13. Hate to say this but from a selling perspective you’d be money ahead to just black tape the bad gauges and add in a EI single replacement. Buyers have no idea what it will take to upgrade the panel to make it look decent. It’s a slippery slope that jumps over 50amu very quickly. Add in the fact that some new pfd’s have built in EIS systems I wouldn’t spend the money.
  14. That’s a bummer. Can’t handle the weight of a 2 blade top prop with my turbo. My prop is in really good condition and was overhauled with new blades a year before the AD came out. Really wished the NDT was due every year with a higher hour limit (250 would be nice).
  15. So a reseal will be in the $6-900 range. What is the added cost for the oil filled hub modification? I don’t mind the cost or the flight over but my prop shop is off the field and I have to use another fbo, kind of a hassle a couple times a year.
  16. Garmin did not win any points with me when they pounced on someone trying to sell a SV unlock. They literally hunted the dealer down with pitch forks ready.
  17. I use an iPad and a plus size phone. Gave serious consideration to moving around/removing instruments to allow for a panel mounted iPad to supplement my yoke mounted unit. In the end I decided against it. IMO the second iPad/phone needs to be treated like a cheap MFD vs another EFB. IMO a panel ifr gps and single EFB is enough junk to play with while flying. Having the second unit pre set for all functions before you taxi is a good SOP. I have my phone set to taxi diagrams on the ground and weather/traffic in the air. I don’t touch it or worry about unless I want to play music during a slow part of the flight. It works for me and a larger screen, unless it was placed perfectly next to my aspen, would not increase the functionality.
  18. Mooney factory, but purchased through a MSC. $300 ish iirc for the two lower ones (each) and more for the upper one.
  19. I agree but to be fair the 3100 does first use the external AHRS unless one is not available. It also requires an external air data unit to be installed if no pfd is used. I thought the 30/50 units were all panel mounted and 60 has most of the brains in the back?
  20. Yep, I hope the factory can get him back into the air ASAP. Was looking forward to his adventures.
  21. I’d get that changed out. Not sure if it one that can explode (however slight still would not be good). Side note a used sl30 is listed on BT for a reasonable amount.
  22. Damn, this is our new MS members ride.
  23. Yep, there was no limitations put on the g3x as far as FIKI. It was already legal if you use legacy backup gauges. Edit: webinar Q&A
  24. Tim mentioned this at S&F. Great news!
  25. I have absolutely zero problem with the choices made. I guess the part that took me back originally was extending the hand out the window and giving the volunteer a salute. I’m not sure what that means in this case...?
