  1. Sounds like a great package. Only change you might consider is a second G5 (hsi) instead of the 106b...cost is similar and it would make a great pair on the right side.
  2. Can we safely assume if you had 6 failures behind a BK AI you would have problems trusting one?
  3. Thanks for the suggestion, Wayne was great on the phone and I shipped the unit off to him this afternoon.
  4. Cooling fins look like new. Bracket is broken. In my install the air intake hose runs very close to the oil cooler and the heat exchanger cover is rubbing against a stand off plate mounted to the back of the oil cooler. Not sure if that plate is normally used behind the oil cooler on C models to control the efficiency of the unit? In this case the vibration of the exhaust to oil cooler caused the failure. I'd like the shop to reweld the heat exchanger air intake at a different angle to give some extra space but remain clear of the exhaust crossover tubes and fix the crack. The picture below shows the limited clearance with the 1.2 inch spacer removed (plate directly on top of the cooler)
  5. My IA is in the process of getting my new to me C in tip top shape. I'm trying to do all the leg work of ordering parts / overhauls to keep him busy replacing parts. I need some welding work done on my exhaust heat exchanger cover as it has a crack. Planning on calling some exhaust shops Monday but was wondering if the MS members had any recommendations. Also need to have my Stewart Warner oil cooler overhauled. Send it back to the company, now called Meggitt Control Systems? Use another approved source? I'd like quality work for a fair price.
  6. The sign corrugated plastic started to burn after a few seconds and really took off after 30 seconds. I'm wondering if the abs plastic will burn or just melt?
  7. The 900 is a lot of work to get installed. If you are doing a new panel and a partial rewire I'd definitely spend the extra for the 750 and 900. IMO the 750 will be the top gps/nav/com for the next decade. Having said that I'm rocking the 430w with no plans to upgrade.
  8. I'm thinking after selling 13 aircraft he tries to avoid buyers that need a couple of years to figure out what exact model and features they want in an aircraft. I wouldn't take it personally. I would buy the book "finding the perfect plane, revision XIV"
  9. Very good questions. I'm looking to put a lot of sweet equity into the interior overhaul. Buying the backing and trim it to fit. Buying automotive carpet (high quality) and cut it to fit. Repairing the plastic and painting it to match. At that point I'll have my local shop bind the carpet, purchase automotive leather and vinyl and redo my seats with new foam and covering. Put the leather or vinyl on the side panels to go above the carpet kick panels will be the last step for them. Hopefully I'll be able to finish the project with an airtex headliner and have my IA sign off. So I'm thinking a budget of 3-6k and slowly working on it over the next 6 months. The reason I picked that example is the limited amount of stitching on the side panels and straight forward seat design for the shop to emulate.
  10. That's a little more hands on vs buy/cut/install but looks like a very high end custom way to go.
  11. I'm looking to do an interior overhaul this summer on my 63 ranger. I'd appreciate some pictures of other c's including floor -carpet cutouts-, seats, and headliner. This is one interior that I like and it looks fairly reasonable for a local shop to copy. Link - M20c
  12. So I picked up some of the corrugated plastic and had a similar burn test result as @Yetti . I'm currently looking at alumalite (corrugated plastic with Al outside), thin abs plastic, thin Al (.02?), and the nomex that @jetdriven used (link please). The boltaron is $250 a sheet plus shipping...a little richer than I wanted to go.
  13. Thanks for all the replies. Is there any disadvantage with using aluminum? Like bending it while being removed so it does not lay flat? Id like to use carpet up part of the sidewall so I'm looking for a higher quality carpet than airtex.
  14. Do you have a link for the 1/8 inch material or did you source it locally?
  15. The interior side panels on my Mooney are falling apart. What backing material is used to replace these units?
  16. Just received the plane so I don't have the data to answer your question. The egt's look well balanced for a carb engine. I was just wondering if anything could be changed to help in cruise. These temps were on a nice 60 degree day. I'm not sure what the readings will be when the temps drop 60 degrees.
  17. I'm looking for an approved install for my IA to install with my assistance. If you are implying that sourcing the parts from laser and having the webbing replaced on my hardware by an approved company is not legal I will continue looking.
  18. So with the adapter I could source new / used J parts and have new webbing put in because the FAA classifies it as a minor alteration?
  19. Wondering how I should approach a single cylinder running cold in cruise. Can the baffling be adjusted slightly or should I not worry about it. It gets really cold in MI over the winter and would like to keep more heat in the cylinder. M20c
  20. Link please for the <$600 set. The one referenced above (eBay) is per seat plus shipping (for each seat) and install kit, lets call it $750 for the front only. I did a search and found an error on my end the price for the two front kits changed from $500->$700 but the price was from 2013. Thank you to everyone who has responded so far.
  21. I will pay whatever it takes to get the job done. What I don't like is a company that increases the price 40% over just a few years. If that happens I try to vote with my wallet and find another vendor which is what I'm trying to do now.
  22. The price is just for the parts and shipping for the front (fixed) and rear belts and minor install kit.
  23. I recently purchased a plane without shoulder harness provisions for the pilot and copilot. I've been looking at the Alpha Aviation units but the price is ~$925 for a fixed kit with new rear belts. Looks like a 40% increase in price over the past 3 years. Do I have any other options that might be less expensive? Thanks for the help!
