Next step for trace amount of something (grease?) on prop
MIm20c replied to DXB's topic in General Mooney Talk
2 blade props are easy to ship. From everything I’ve seen Cody is a straight shooter. I’d pick a time that works well for you and ship it off. -
I was thinking about doing that as well. However, disconnecting the P/S system would take out the ASI as well. I’m not sure if they have a cap system to cork it off.

I dangerously talked to a spruce creek realtor at S&F. It’s the fees, taxes, and insurance that kill the deal for me. The dream is still there but it would completely drain the flying budget.

Good luck on your search! The 2004 Ovation 2 DX is the first model to have the lower dash height. For your height you should consider adjusting the seat higher and getting the rudder pedal extensions. I would contact strategic aviation to see if they have anything to try out.

Was I wrong? Refused to taxi or park on grass at Sun n Fun
MIm20c replied to FloridaMan's topic in General Mooney Talk
An honest question. Is the nose wheel to prop distance or weight any different than a bravo? What about the distance between the nose wheel and main gear? I normally follow @LANCECASPER ‘s advice and use a close airport (bartow). Hotels and rental cars are so easy in that area and I just don’t get the camping vibe like I do at OSH. -
The exchange option is another 500? Per display.

The unlock stays with the configuration module so they should transfer over. Good to know about the night operation. The current screen still has a lot of backlight washout that is too bright at night. If I spring for the g3x I’d probably stick with the stec 50. No way the gfc is going in. This is one thing that bugs me. It’s almost the same cost to add a second screen after the fact. Aspen said the upgrade is required for the 3100 integration. There will also be a $2k unlock for that capability. The 3100 looks stellar but with AP upgrade installs in the 12-14k range, 3k max upgrade, and a 2k unlock it will not be cheap. This is another reason I’m dragging my feet. I don’t mind being last in line to maximize the good weather in MI and see how efficient the process is for others.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update

Very helpful Nav, thanks! -
This looks like a great “weekend” trip. KHWO to TIST might be just the ticket for an inexpensive/easy route to that area of the world. Launching from IST to Saint Lucia and Grenada sounds like a perfect trip to me. Bucket list for sure.

Could be. Matt? (from the summit) was actively showing the Ovation off to a few parties. I talked with Paul (knows everything electrical for Mooney aircraft) for a long time and he was very helpful. Everyone when I was there were engaging potential customers. No cellphone or texting BS. No fence BS. Refreshments offered to anyone that showed interest/walked by. It might be a consistency problem during the long shows?

Got back from S&F late last night. I know Mooney took some (justified?) flak last summer during S&F and osh. I have to say I really enjoyed my time stopping by the display yesterday. Some very knowledgeable people were there with decades of experience. Very welcoming and helpful not closed off and preoccupied that I sensed before. Thanks Mooney for the appropriate changes!

My mistake, I thought the additions doubled the cost to 2100. We’ve used MSC for annuals 10 times in the past 20 years. My educated guess is an average of $5.5k per annual over that time period.
-
To be honest the cost of adding a mfd and upgrading both to max is about the same as putting in a g3x and selling my aspen system. The Garmin system has the advantage of a cheap integrated adsb system that would allow me to keep my 330es and a two way (fs210 like) communication between iPad and my 430w.
-
The upgraded screen is more vibrant and doesn’t wash out when looking from the side (copilot). This is a complaint of my current unit but then again the copilot is not paying for the gas!
-
I’m having a hard time committing to the max upgrade right now. Talked at length with Aspen yesterday about the upgrade and left the show with more doubts than answers. I feel like there is a 5 ish inch model in the pipeline (osh 2020?) that might catch my eye in the future. I also really like my pro just the way it is. So I started to make a list. Pros Warranty - two year, repairs if need on mine $1300-2500 or exchange (5k) if it completely fried. Battery life - less than 30 vs 2 hrs. Faster processor - I could notice faster response even with the crs/heading selection independence from ps system failure Cons Downtime 3 weeks- the upgrade is already expensive so I’d probably opt for sending in my unit. Shop is a 4 hr drive one way Cost - it’s not so much the total cost but what can be purchased avionics wise with that money. It would almost replace my 430w with a 440. limited extra utility- without spending more to put in a max mfd some of the additional benefits like backup instruments is not realized Any other thoughts? I have to admit I’m hesitating partly due to some recent announcements from other companies. Picture from yesterday...

I believe that a shop with liability insurance, hangar rent, etc giving a $1k base annual on a non owner assisted complex aircraft is very low. It sounds like they spent a lot of time cleaning and properly lubing the aircraft which is very important. You will be a smarter owner going forward but please don’t think you will have $1k non assisted annuals going forward on a 50 year old plane.

Good news for those that have Aspen displays. Normally Aspen charges $2k to unlock the ability to control AP functions (stec, BK, etc). Apparently TT is doing the work for the interface so the unlock is not required. This info is second hand from Aspen so no guarantees or time lines. -
I have to say the price is amazing imo. A 38% ($3,300) increase for all the work that is involved for certification sounds fair to me. It makes the txi seem a little overpriced but that’s the only beef I have.
-
@Bryan make sure your installer is aware that Garmin reduced the price of the SV. No reason to pay more unless you have to.

Mooney Summit VII Sept 27th-Sept 29th 2019 Panama City Beach, FL.
MIm20c replied to mike_elliott's topic in Mooney Summit
The question is if he rides in the bonanza again what Mooney parts he’ll have to hold in his lap on the way home. -
That of course is your choice. But being in a partnership to share the burden and the fact that this is an owner maintenance item I would not think twice about it. Keep in mind you’re looking at the fire sleeve which has very little to do with the actual condition of the hose. Cut the sleeve off the hose you removed and flex the inner portion back and forth. If it’s stuff and or cracking the other ones will be the same. I would also closely look over the scat hose. You might have a damaged section that was pulling in the gas fumes from the engine compartment. We yanked our engine at 2500 hrs and I really wished we waited until 3k. Changing the hoses out at 15 years was a very good decision though.
-
Not to be an armchair mechanic but if the hoses are 22 years old you might want to replace all of them.

Exhaust decisions / PowerFlow debate

If you gradually tightened the other ones in a star pattern well above the value you might want to change those as well. I admire your strength, I have to strain a fair bit to get my car lug nuts to 105 ft lbs.
