  1. I think of wholesale/retail spread of 30%+. Mistakenly, I guess, I thought AAA would do a 5-10% broker fee on planes without actually buying them.
  2. I’d give AAA a call and see if it feels like a good fit.
  3. I have mine set for 1 inch low with full tanks and two in the front. However, my plane is on the forward edge of the CG envelope in this configuration.
  4. They all fail a little different. Sometimes it bogs down the start like a weak battery or starter motor. Fix it now before you get stranded in Naples paying twice the price for the repair and lost vacation time (although there are worse areas to break down).
  5. I think we need a race...I vote for any altitude above 15k.
  6. I understand and can relate. I’m in the R and C back to back often and they are vastly different aircraft. I also was pushed away from a Mooney when a broker from CA jacked the price $60k from what the owner wanted with the only upgrade being leather seats. One thing I would NEVER do is try to flip a plane. These things are money sucking animals and even simple upgrades or cleaning up can turn the flip upside down in a hurry.
  7. Are you looking to upgrade to a C or add one to the fleet? Buying this one because it’s a good deal or really want another plane?
  8. As long as it’s not my daughter leaving on the back of one...
  9. You will for long transmissions. Com 2 on the bottom (650) has always had more reach and sensitivity than the 750 transmitting on top. In rural areas (Alaska et al) I have the 750/650 both monitoring the same frequency and transmit on the 650.
  10. Sounds like a good long weekend trip for an Iron Butt rider, think @stinkypants only on a motorcycle. Why else would you buy a GW...ultra long rides or persuaded by the wife. I used to do some crazy long days on a GSA...with two kids, not so much.
  11. The shop has to test each servo during installation. My guess is they have a max allowable voltage draw during operation (among other things) that will force some customers to overhaul the servo before installation/warranty. Edit: I was thinking amperage and typed voltage.
  12. We have ours on the bottom because of the skywatch antenna. It’s mounted just behind the wings just slightly to the left of center. I wouldn’t change yours unless there was a really good reason.
  13. Doug, I really appreciate your no BS responses. Fully answering the questions and including pricing info, very helpful.
  14. I agree completely but feel in this case it was a failure from the top down.
  15. I think the price delta between a three axis gfc500 and 3100 (upgrade) will be very small. The extra spent for removal/install of the servo brackets could be negated with a single stec servo overhaul if it fails the test. Without a doubt I would go with the 3100 system if your panel has one or more Aspen units. It’s well worth the $6k difference in price vs the TT for the hardware. I’m still not sure if the Aspen Max is connected to the 3100 if the simplified wiring is usable if the ($2k) unlock is not utilized by the owner. Just like you I’m sitting on the sidelines with an Aspen and stec 50 that are working well.
  16. Aspen is doing a good job bailing people out when they buy a used unit that is not complete. However, keep in mind you are going against the STC by installing a used unit without sending it back to Aspen. It will not have the proper connections on the backplate to allow for the external battery which allows for the removal of your ASI and altimeter. Recently Aspen was selling used MFD units for $5k retail. With a dealer that gives you a discount the price will be less than $4500. Even if you got the unit for sub 2k it might cost a good portion of that to get yours reconfigured and ready for action.
  17. Big risk, big reward. I personally only buy factory sealed items on eBay. However, most are very expensive items. On average I save 40-60% off Amazon/Costco prices for the same item. I just picked up a new 65 OLED for 1/2 off Amazon’s price. That $1500 savings for 1 year of warranty is a risk I’m willing to take.
  18. Is the dealer authorized? If so it doesn’t matter if the headset was made in 1812. The sales receipt sets the start of the warranty. If you are planning on going to OSH I’d give them hell. I own two sets of a20’s but I’m not a fan of Bose as a company.
  19. This could be bad... A wild ride for the pilot trying to get back to the front after hugging the hat rack during a speed run. Bad time for a 256 failure.
  20. I would think TC are coming out by the 100’s right now. I would look for a nicer used one or upgrade to a lifesaver AI / similar. We’ll be removing one of each but not until November.
  21. 3-5 kts depending on altitude and prop speed. I will say the paint durability on the thin edges is not nearly as good...
  22. I’ll be looking forward to 3/4 way gps runs with your setup. After thousands of hours with a thick blade and hundreds with a thin blade setup I feel easily over 195 kts is a bit of a stretch but might be possible with one person and quarter tanks.
  23. I prefer headsets but find my female passengers strongly dislike them. The weight and clamping force is not tolerated after ~2 hrs. I have two pairs of a20’s and just purchased a new Zulu 3 set. I’m hopeful the new lightspeeds will be reliable. With my older sets (two pair) I had to stop by the osh booth every year to fix at least one of them. Strongly considering buying a couple halo headsets just for the passengers.
  24. Spent 20 hrs flying around Alaska in a long body. A Mooney would not be my first choice in that part of the world. 20kts is not going to make any difference for most trips. However, limiting the useable airports by 50 percent will.
  25. Probably about the same number of flights with a new paint job That aspen is going to be really nice!
