  1. My understanding is that the G5 requires a GPS source, whether it is the internal GPS, which has no antenna or a ship source. I had a well known mooney shop install a G5 and they didn’t tie it into the ship GPS, which would have been expensive. It was working but the actual avionics shop seemed surprised that it was working. They installed a Garmin antenna which we velcroed to the dash, total cost $200.
  2. I think I have a friend who lives in San Marcos and is in aviation, I will give him a call tomorrow. You will probably need to get a lawyer. did you pay for it on credit card?
  3. It is only money.
  4. Well, I got my samples in....the wool, which is on the top feels much more substantial and durable than the nylon carpet, on the bottom. It is also slightly thicker, maybe 25%, hopefully that won't cause interference issues. I am leaning toward wool in the pewter, which is upper right. I think it will match well with my gray leather, which also needs to be redone...one thing at a time.
  5. I sent the article to my airplane mechanic and he had a conversation with Mr. Badlands a year ago about buying his twin. Small world.
  6. I am going to disagree with this.....and your mileage and opinions may vary. I had to replace the latching mechanism, the part that sets the angle of the back seats, it just broke. During the repair, found out the seat mechanism was only partially riveted to the airframe. There wasn't much meat there. The bracket was only riveted to the sheet metal that sits over the mechanicals in the belly, so not a lot. I suspect that as people struggle to get in and out of the back seats they lean hard against the seat, putting pressure on the mechanism and the bracket. Front seats no issues. I do wonder if these seats are certified to the new 26G limit of modern airframes?
  7. Well I ordered some samples of the nylon and the wool. will provide a detailed update when I have in hand. I was only kidding about the stimulus money, I don't think I will qualify for Round 3. But who knows. Mortgaging our kids future for a quick and dirty political points.
  8. Decided to spend my stimulus check on something silly and airplane upgrades came to mind...... SCS interiors has 3 types of carpet available, lightweight, nylon and wool with an increasing dollar amount for each one. I always thought carpet was carpet.....Does anybody have any idea what makes each one better or worse? It is not an insignificant difference wool almost doubles the cost. Their website didn't list any differences. Fly safe. Mark
  9. not sure why they didnt shut the left engine down when stopped.....and where would they find a mechanic to open up a burning cowling?
  10. Looks like it did lose a blade. The blade also penetrayed up through the fuselage and wing root.
  11. Was thinking the same thing, maybe the oil system?
  12. I am in and out of OFP all the time, 469MM. They will know me at the desk. More than happy to get you a test flight or answer questions.
  13. Will this work? I tried to find historical prog charts, but no luck...or I got bored.
  14. One for her, one for you and one for the dog. I have never gone to bed with a 1, but have woken up next to a 1.
  15. Well let me start with freight companies are criminals...They will cover their asses when you signed your tariff agreement, which is several hundred pages long and we know damn certain nobody reads those. However certain fundamentals do apply. They will pay you a certain $ per pound, since our engines are almost made of gold. The shipper should be responsible, they are the ones providing the BOL. Good luck, they are awful.
  16. Last week I was flying along at 7,000 east bound from AR to VA, mostly between layers but in constant light rain. Temperature was +7 Celsius and I wasn't concerned about icing as the winds aloft all showed the temperature to be plenty warm. Cabin was pleasant, I typically don't run heat as slightly paranoid about it and I do have a CO detector. In less than a minute the cabin got real cold and the temperature dropped to 0 Celsius and clear ice started building on the wing, hit the TKS system and requested lower altitude immediately which was granted. About 30 minutes prior someone reported icing at 6000 about 50 miles northeast of my position. I thought that was odd as we were flying in fundamentally the same air mass and sure enough I got hit by the same thing. I really wish I would have paid more attention to what caused this but it wasn't a real weather day where you look at all of the options as generally there wasn't anything to be concerned with. Best I can figure is I was flying in some warm air mass and then flew into the colder air mass....obviously. Just sharing a story.
  17. We are ignoring the eyes completely. I was always told the flu got in through their as it was nice warm moist spot for viruses to live. How it gets from there to the rest of the body is beyond me. Yes the flue isn't COVID, but in my uneducated opinion it is close enough. I guess i should google it.
  18. You have an idiots guide to reading and understanding this? Asking for a friend......
  19. I think I have one....not able to get to it till next week. Will send pics then. What do you think it is worth?
  20. Mine is just under the green arc almost all the time. I put the winterization plate in and it made almost no difference. At least the temp is consistent.
  21. Auto salvage yard?
  22. Sounds like they are trying to fix hardware issues with software.....30 or 40 more attempts and they will have it right or so bloated doesn’t work at all....ala Microsoft, Sandia, BK-300, etc.
  23. The other theory is less fuel means less weight on the rubber landing gear disks and supposedly longer life. I said theory so I am covered. I personally don't buy the keeping tanks full theory, my one repaired leak and maybe tiny seepage are all on the bottom which is covered by fuel 90% of the time and my landings are always butter smooth so hard landings aren't causing it......
  24. Not an expert but he is a low time pilot, I think TT 230 hours.....so $5300 doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
  25. I read about someone/somewhere having one installed....it might have been on beechtalk? Everybody was pretty incredulous.
