  1. I seem to recall my ovation has non official lettering just forward of the wing root saying it is a lift point. Why it is on their I have no idea. Nothing in POH that I can recall. Airport is closed for remodel so when I am back out there this week will take a pic….or realize my senile mind is making things up. Seems like there are too many cowboys who just want to lift it, damage be damned. Not referring to any of you all, just YouTube videos in general. But it does seem like they caused damaged on right front strap.
  2. I don’t think Obama has one in Chicago.....as he is living in DC.....at least I hope there isn’t one as I just flew down the Lake Michigan shoreline today....nothing on not as I could see. I think he is living in DC area, which apparently isn’t what ex presidents are supposed to do, they are supposed to shut up and go home.
  3. I had my Ovation inspected and recertified as N-registered airplane, through the DER with Freedom in Lynchburg about 5 years ago. All seemed reasonable, except less than 3 months in my local mechanic found a problem with my exhaust system. This was just after the previous owner had an annual in Canada done. I seem to recall some other things that popped up that probably should have been caught, only other one I can recall is the fuel injection wasn't set up properly, needed more gas to keep EGT's on the rich side. Overall I would grade them a C. @Gatlin Gun I am based sort of out of Richmond starting next week, if you need a shuttle anywhere let me know.
  4. I was under the impression we arent supposed to use silicon due to the acidic component?
  5. Geez......the more I read about all these failures it seems like Microsoft engineers are designing them.....has to be a better solution
  6. I bet they have a nice power point presentation
  7. You are awfully optimistic....only one ream of paperwork? I would think it is more like barrels and barrels of paperwork.
  8. We need that guy on here who chimes in that PMA, TSO, STC, etc and so on actually mean something.
  9. Well it sounds like the door seals are a general pain in the ass..... And I am speaking from experience, my door whistled like a freight train, bought the new door seal from Knots 2 U. The old seal was completely dry rotted and could be removed about 1/2" at a time, the adhesive was perfectly attached and the problem is there is no way to soak with MEK, acetone, etc.....so I resorted to paint stripper, carefully applied and masked off, that got it done, but still not easy and required lots of elbow grease. Nothing easy about that project. I followed the instructions for installing the new one, correct side out, etc. Applied the glue to the door frame and then started the process of applying glue to the seal and working it into position. This is when the disaster started, it just wasn't easy coming around the corners, I should have had clothespins or something to hold in place, but it would slip and move and now I have glue on my applying hands, trying to manipulate the damn thing into position, several inches at a time, per the instructions, eventually got it all installed and just just the damn door to hold into position......luckily the door didn't glue itself shut, but I wasn't happy with the whole process. The results were also less than stellar, still whistles, maybe not as bad, but I don't see how that door seal would ever seal, I suspect the gap between door and body frame is just too big. I think what I will do down the road is cut/removed the door sear from whistling areas, and start applying some filler material, temporarily taped in and see if that help fills the gap and then fill it with sealant. In hindsight the inflatable door seal is looking like a much better option, but no idea what that will fill in to cover the manufacturing gap on the door.
  10. There is a posting I think on a wastebook site about never washing your airplane with water. Goes into a lengthy discussion of how professional airplane detailers are forbidden by their insurance policies. I am thinking they just want you to avoid using a pressure washer? I have always washed my planes with a hose and bucket, how else do you expect to lift and remove the dirt? The water and soap as lubricants to get the dirt away from the finish. Personally I think it is a nonsensical argument but I was just curious what the geniuses of MS think. Mark "who will continue washing with a hose"
  11. I really doubt if a mechanic is going back and look at pucks and verify they are the correct part, as long as they look close I suspect you are fine. Do they go back and look at all of the other parts installed and make sure they are correct? Maybe technically they are supposed to but realistically there are too many parts to verify. And the PMA/TSO certifications are all nonsense, look how poorly built and generally crap quality some of these components are, here is the short list I can think of, speed brakes, backspring, fuel pumps, champion spark plugs, stall warning switches, Sandia KI-300 product line, etc. and so on. Feel free to add your own. My opinion is use the rubber disks, make them out of old tires, probably not going to be worse than the overpriced, under engineered crap we are buying now.
  12. I am in fort smith AR and could do it..txt me 804 687 2001
  13. It amazes me that they are able to raise that kind of funding on unproven concepts, management team, market studies, etc....unless they are complete BS'ers.... You know what they say to get a small fortune in aviation, start with a large one.
  14. I have an ovation and the low side quit working. It is somewhere, relatively easy to access on the right side of the panel. maxwell repaired the board for relatively low cost, he has a guy who knows which part to replace. I don’t have the invoice as it was stolen, long story,
  15. A very experienced MSC mentioned the "mooney rumble".....i sometimes hear something but no indication on flight instruments, controls or engine gauges....i just shrug and go on.
  16. I think everything across the board is getting cheaper and poorly made, disposal goods to expensive capital goods....blame wall street and all of the MBA's.
  17. It must be normal as my 2000 ovation does the same thing.
  18. I am in richmond VA the rest of this week. Leaving to PA Saturday, could squeeze in into flight.
  19. I am still waiting for my KI-300.....
  20. This is not what I thought it was going to be....
  21. Does it broadcast speed? Or location where it calculates speed, time distance calculation? I have seen that same squiggly line on my tracks, just not as extreme.
  22. Their is a book recently released called "The Politics Industry" by Katherine Gehl and Michael Porter (of business school fame) that highlights the non functioning and special interests of both parties D and R. The game is rigged in their favor, it made my blood boil. It is a relatively easy read. I would recommend it so you can make your own opinions. I had a client ask me if I was a D or R and I told him neither, I am a conservative. Pragmatic conservative at that. Until the political process is corrected we are going to go down the path we are going down. Trying not to state my opinions here. Although the other thought process someone said is "the USA is the only ponzi scheme that works"....I guess until it doesn't.
  23. Start high and work down on pricing, i have found it is a lot harder to go opposite direction.
  24. This is the problem, that the legislators are so stupid that they even consider this idea or dozens of others as "good" ideas. Our leadership in this country is stupid, all the way down to the local level, red and blue.
