  1. I am looking for a KEA130A with Mod 4.....think she has it?
  2. Pulling the prop off to have reseal, repaint and new boots installed and uncovered this phenomenon. My mechanic says it is normal, the theory is the centrifugal action spins the lead out of the oil and it accumulates. No idea if this is normal buildup but mechanic wasn't concerned. About 1500 TT. The rusting/corrosion on mounting surface will be addressed.
  3. I still have 60 gallons left I bought at $4.04.....am I inflation hedging?
  4. One of the other forums said 2 cylinders were just replaced within the last 10 hours. Just parroting what I saw somewhere else. Your opinions and expert analysis may vary.
  5. Several months ago I bought an airport property in Afton Wyoming with the plan to build a hangar and home. Have only started this process and I am not thrilled with the numbers I am getting. Met a local architect and he proposed some plans where it was going to cost me $1.1 million and a $20,000 architect fee. I think their numbers are way off. Hangar price was $120 sq. ft, my high level research shows maybe $60 sq ft, (steel building $20-$25 sq ft, concrete site work $20 sq. ft, installation $20 sq ft.) The home was coming in at $220 sq ft. I am an avid, capable DIY'er and an infamous cheap bastard in keeping with the Mooney owners theme. Found a company that builds the panels and they are claiming a DIY'er could build a home for $80 sq ft. I realize the interior finishes are a huge %, but again I can install cabinets, tile, flooring, etc. That is secondary for this discussion. My friend is in the sheet metal steel business and he put me on to this company. Looks like the structure is welded trusses versus the typical solid steel structure. Any thoughts to this versus the traditional way? Airplane Hangar | Metal Airplane Hangar Kits | Worldwide Steel Buildings Guess I am not sure what I am asking, but nothing is being built in 2022. Plan is 2023 come hell or high water.
  6. How many airplanes have actually landed gear up due to this spring breaking?
  7. Well, finally an update. Decided to use Colorado Air and Space port, KCFO based on some opinions here. #1 it avoided all the vectoring into the other 2 airports. Ended up picking up and dropping a passenger off at the DEN Airport, so it was super close. Services were all good, didn't check fuel prices....sometimes you just have to say WTF and move on, rental car was ready, they have tie downs with heater plugs and there is a Mexican restaurant in the terminal, didnt eat there. Don't think they charged me overnight fees. Probably use it again, maybe try one of the others just so I have some real time info.
  8. I put delicate painters tape on it, not the old blue stuff. The delicate painters tape is in the same aisle as the regular. I was just doing a bunch of compounding and heavy cleaning/waxing and wanted to keep out and off of the TKS panels.
  9. sorry, I am terrible about responding…..don’t ever hesitate to bug me, my feelings won’t be hurt. summary, a well known MSC was asked to fix it, they responded they did and tightened the field connector and tested good….well that was BS. Ended up having my local mechanic go through it and finding a true expert. The spline wasn’t the issue, the VR wasn’t the issue, the output from stby alternator was also outputting properly. The issue was 2 wires buried deep behind the CB panel were not attached. These wires connect to the Mooney relays for providing power to the emergency bus items and the notification on the annunciator panel. We were not getting power to the emer alt switch which was a clue to one of the problems. My mechanic stuck a borescope down into the bowels of the CB panel and discovered these beauties. The issue is accessibility, required dissasembly of large portions of the CB panel to gain access….haven’t received bill yet….wires reattached and now the system works like designed. I assume somebody is still having a problem with the system not powering the bus. I would follow the B&C checklist and eliminate their system as the problem, all of their components are easy to access and diagnose, the complexity becomes the connection to the mooney itself. I have the diagrams for the mooney installation if anybody wants a copy. If anybody wants more info, let me know and I will provide my cell number. I am not a mechanic….but I do lots of work running a factory and keeping all my toys running.
  10. Doesn't apply by serial number.
  11. Ok....i dont know why certain people can view or not....stoopid #$^*&$ technology..... This is the YouTube link....please let me know if not working.
  12. Getting the annual done and mechanic found this situation. In aileron full UP on both sides there seems to be a lot of movement, when the aileron is full DOWN, the movement is minimal. The maintenance manual doesn't specify, except for 12.5 to 14.5 degrees. Just seems like a lot. All of the linkages have been inspected and nothing amiss....is this normal? 170746.3gp
  13. Driving distance to Breckinridge is about the same, flight time minute or two longer theoretically, but which one is easier to get in and out and has better FBO’s?
  14. I had some car wash go bad during last winters freeze where it went to 0 Fahrenheit here in AArkansas. That was the only product that was ruined. Other random cleaners and fluids all seemed fine.
  15. Not specifically. I bought my first one and it did nothing but generate static on the radios, which is not an uncommon issue, so it went in the garbage. I don't know if there is such a thing as a high quality one as they are all made in some Chinese factory. I bought a second one that has 2 ports, one seems like it is 1.1 amps and the other shows 2.1 (numbers are approximate). At the 2.1 port the charger will slowly charge the ipad if the screen is off and if you are using it the charge goes down, seems like it is going down quicker these days as my ipad is 5 years old. Hate to consider buying a new ipad. I suspect you are just as likely to find a "high quality" one that works as well as a cheap one.
  16. OK, they came in. When I bought a new one 2 years ago, i have a vague recollection of there being ground off tabs. I will put one in the lathe and see if I can pull/cut it open and apart with an exacto knife. I have $14 in each of them. so in the terms of mistakes I have made that have cost me money this one will be cheap. Won't be the first time and won't be the last.
  17. I have an M20R, what is the legality of installing this product? I don't see it on the list.
  18. I too had one depart over Ohio somewhere, if you find it, please send back to me. The issue is water gets behind the seal and then at freezing altitude pops off. When I reglued the new one, made sure to seal properly. Gave me a startle as when I looked out that side, looked like there was a big hole in the wing. I am highly doubtful Mooney will order more.......we are going to be on our own for these parts and I suspect a lot more as time goes on. I have found the gauge online, or at least something that looks the same for like $11.29 each, I need/want to replace the one on the other side as it is really cloudy. I am going to order one and see if I can make it work. will advise.
  19. I wish I had better advice, I replaced the seal on my mooney with the Knots4U version(I think), it was a PITA, now it whistles more than it did before. I think the problem is the huge variability in the door and door frame dimensions. The door fits flush when closed, so I don't think there is any adjustments to be made and there. I am thinking I will have to add some type of foam seal in the areas where it doesn't fit properly. Reading posts on here seems like the whole thing is problematic. The inflatable door seal option, despite being several hundred dollars seems more and more like a better option.
  20. There is another post on here somewhere about the float filling with fluid and reading terrible. But for the record I have also deiced my hangar floor once.
  21. Wisconsin, Minnesota…..I get them mixed up…..wilmar
  22. I was quoted about $15K to $16K among the three main well know suppliers. The guy in WI, TX and FL. All were about the same price.
  23. More airplanes in the ocean than submarines in the sky.
  24. way out of my price range as well, looks like entry level starting lot is $725, leaving zeros off the end. It does include a share of a Kodiak SE turboprop, so that would be nice.
