  1. Where is this? If near Jackson Hole, I can’t afford it either.
  2. My left brake caliper has been leaking, A&P replaced the caliper seals and no more leak, we had a heck of a time getting the brake pedal to firm up, and we never really did, and to be honest the brakes since I bought the airplane have never really impressed me, seemed like they took a lot of effort to use. During this process with the pressure pot we could see lots of thin black film being pumped from the calipers (I think, memory is sketchy as it was 2 months ago), it might have been connected to the reservoir, the point being there is a lot of black film looking substance that shouldn't be in there. The airplane is a 2000 Ovation and guessing still has the original fluid as the stuff we replaced looked horribly dirty and off colored, it didn't look clean. I am guessing every 20 or so years not a bad idea to overhaul the system. I am guessing the "black film" came from the inside lining of the flexible brake hoses? Is there any other sources? Should we replace the O-rings in the master cylinders? I am also unclear if there is a shuttle valve system. I will break out the manuals this evening, but sometimes easier to go to people who have experienced this in the past. Also want to research parts availability, hate to get it all taken apart and find that one part is unobtanium, either temporarily or semi-permanently. Thanks in advance.
  3. Will definitely have an open door for any Mooney owner who wants to stop in. Thinking I will only live there in the summer time, till the 8' of snow start....... Right now just land, the more I think about it the more I dread the planning and making building decisions. First world problems. Guess will just have to do it, money is cheap these days.
  4. It is a 2 hour drive. Pleasant drive.
  5. They are all about 1.2 acres, so not huge. I bought the last one that was actively listed, they had 4 available several weeks ago and I bought the last one being actively listed. They sold 3 in one week, I decided I better act fast. They were asking $175K, I negotiated long and hard and got a .6% discount (notice the decimal point), it is definitely a sellers market. The one "in front" with unobstructed view of runway is asking $500K so stupid money. Not listed, I declined.
  6. Decided time to start building a compound and preparing for the revolution....... The only picture that shows my property is Afton3, the rest are just views. This is located in Afton Wyoming, KAFO, which is about 2 hours south of Jackson Hole. Now for the fun times of house design, approvals and contractors. Expect a lot more questions on hangar design, etc. in the near future.
  7. My mooney was done by Maxwell several months ago and heard some rumor/discussion that they made a group buy with Lasar? Take that for what it is worth.
  8. Flying back home and came through a small line of weather, light to maybe moderate rain and the Altimeter and VSI jumped immediately, Altimeter about 100+ feet and the VSI to 500 foot climb. AP tries to correct, but I hurry up and hit the disconnect and hand fly and the "variation" goes away very quickly. Obviously moisture causing it, but how and why? This happened once several years ago, very similar rain conditions. I have also spent a lot of time flying in constant rain in Florida and the Southeast and no odd effects. I doubt if this has anything to do with it, but the other time it occurred was similar geographical conditions, what I would consider high desert. First time was remnants of a hurricane and I was going into Santa Fe NM and this time was in Eastern Wyoming.
  9. I have about convinced my brother to buy a sail boat I can use.....I ain't no dummy.
  10. I seem to recall my ovation has non official lettering just forward of the wing root saying it is a lift point. Why it is on their I have no idea. Nothing in POH that I can recall. Airport is closed for remodel so when I am back out there this week will take a pic….or realize my senile mind is making things up. Seems like there are too many cowboys who just want to lift it, damage be damned. Not referring to any of you all, just YouTube videos in general. But it does seem like they caused damaged on right front strap.
  11. I don’t think Obama has one in Chicago.....as he is living in DC.....at least I hope there isn’t one as I just flew down the Lake Michigan shoreline today....nothing on not as I could see. I think he is living in DC area, which apparently isn’t what ex presidents are supposed to do, they are supposed to shut up and go home.
  12. I had my Ovation inspected and recertified as N-registered airplane, through the DER with Freedom in Lynchburg about 5 years ago. All seemed reasonable, except less than 3 months in my local mechanic found a problem with my exhaust system. This was just after the previous owner had an annual in Canada done. I seem to recall some other things that popped up that probably should have been caught, only other one I can recall is the fuel injection wasn't set up properly, needed more gas to keep EGT's on the rich side. Overall I would grade them a C. @Gatlin Gun I am based sort of out of Richmond starting next week, if you need a shuttle anywhere let me know.
  13. I was under the impression we arent supposed to use silicon due to the acidic component?
  14. Geez......the more I read about all these failures it seems like Microsoft engineers are designing them.....has to be a better solution
  15. I bet they have a nice power point presentation
  16. You are awfully optimistic....only one ream of paperwork? I would think it is more like barrels and barrels of paperwork.
  17. We need that guy on here who chimes in that PMA, TSO, STC, etc and so on actually mean something.
  18. Well it sounds like the door seals are a general pain in the ass..... And I am speaking from experience, my door whistled like a freight train, bought the new door seal from Knots 2 U. The old seal was completely dry rotted and could be removed about 1/2" at a time, the adhesive was perfectly attached and the problem is there is no way to soak with MEK, acetone, etc.....so I resorted to paint stripper, carefully applied and masked off, that got it done, but still not easy and required lots of elbow grease. Nothing easy about that project. I followed the instructions for installing the new one, correct side out, etc. Applied the glue to the door frame and then started the process of applying glue to the seal and working it into position. This is when the disaster started, it just wasn't easy coming around the corners, I should have had clothespins or something to hold in place, but it would slip and move and now I have glue on my applying hands, trying to manipulate the damn thing into position, several inches at a time, per the instructions, eventually got it all installed and just just the damn door to hold into position......luckily the door didn't glue itself shut, but I wasn't happy with the whole process. The results were also less than stellar, still whistles, maybe not as bad, but I don't see how that door seal would ever seal, I suspect the gap between door and body frame is just too big. I think what I will do down the road is cut/removed the door sear from whistling areas, and start applying some filler material, temporarily taped in and see if that help fills the gap and then fill it with sealant. In hindsight the inflatable door seal is looking like a much better option, but no idea what that will fill in to cover the manufacturing gap on the door.
  19. There is a posting I think on a wastebook site about never washing your airplane with water. Goes into a lengthy discussion of how professional airplane detailers are forbidden by their insurance policies. I am thinking they just want you to avoid using a pressure washer? I have always washed my planes with a hose and bucket, how else do you expect to lift and remove the dirt? The water and soap as lubricants to get the dirt away from the finish. Personally I think it is a nonsensical argument but I was just curious what the geniuses of MS think. Mark "who will continue washing with a hose"
  20. I really doubt if a mechanic is going back and look at pucks and verify they are the correct part, as long as they look close I suspect you are fine. Do they go back and look at all of the other parts installed and make sure they are correct? Maybe technically they are supposed to but realistically there are too many parts to verify. And the PMA/TSO certifications are all nonsense, look how poorly built and generally crap quality some of these components are, here is the short list I can think of, speed brakes, backspring, fuel pumps, champion spark plugs, stall warning switches, Sandia KI-300 product line, etc. and so on. Feel free to add your own. My opinion is use the rubber disks, make them out of old tires, probably not going to be worse than the overpriced, under engineered crap we are buying now.
  21. I am in fort smith AR and could do it..txt me 804 687 2001
  22. It amazes me that they are able to raise that kind of funding on unproven concepts, management team, market studies, etc....unless they are complete BS'ers.... You know what they say to get a small fortune in aviation, start with a large one.
  23. I have an ovation and the low side quit working. It is somewhere, relatively easy to access on the right side of the panel. maxwell repaired the board for relatively low cost, he has a guy who knows which part to replace. I don’t have the invoice as it was stolen, long story,
  24. A very experienced MSC mentioned the "mooney rumble".....i sometimes hear something but no indication on flight instruments, controls or engine gauges....i just shrug and go on.
