  1. During the work on interior redo, existing was discovered to be damaged, upon removal broke in half. Luckily I have a laser cutter and made a new one. Still have to fill in the green mark but it is etched in there. If anybody else wants one will send you one no charge, maybe you can make donation to non political charity.
  2. Repainting and redoing my interior and painted some of the small pieces on top of a bigger piece so the overspray would help cover....CB and all. Well I was prepping that piece with the overspray and the alcohol wiped the paint off. Was not super encouraging on durability. Any thoughts or different paint products?
  3. Does this open in flight?? Anybody else hear about this? https://www.flyingmag.com/ellis-associates-stc-allows-modified-airplane-windows-to-open
  4. Not a drip or a drop or a drizzle or a splash
  5. I have them on my ovation…..check them all the time, but have never gotten a drip of water out of them.
  6. I had a same but different problem.....never any issued in the air, but on the Jack's it would stop, sometimes going up, sometimes going down. Much head scratching and investigative head banging. Discovered the problem was one of the pins in a connector at pilots sidewall. There are 3 connectors, buried deep behind CB, second at pilots sidewall and the connection in belly pan. We looked at the sidewall connector and found a defective pin. Replaced and no issues since.
  7. Pulling access panels for my annual inspection for the mechanic and found this. The right hand pushrod appears to have been rubbing on the access panel. The left hand side is much less scratching. I have never noticed anything in flight and don't recall working ailerons on ground and hearing any noises. Mechanic has been notified but he isn't a mooney expert so any useful advice is appreciated. Mark
  8. My friend who is a lot less averse to spending money than me is upgrading now because they are offering $4000 per 430w on trade in. Do we think that number will change much in 5 years? Best theories only. My guess is they will still be worth $4000 for the risk taker.
  9. Well I was told to not leave vertical as the water will then weep inside the prop hub……who knows. Probably doesn’t make any difference in long run.
  10. so when we have this corrosion on the seams, does it creep underneath the seam? That would be my bigger concern. Easy to get the stuff on the top. Or do we just accept it for what it is and move on?
  11. Here is the garbage in the clear line....no idea where it came from. This is length of clear line from reservoir to the front. Something somewhere has come apart. Also attached is picture of the corrosion in the caliper. Replaced o rings twice since I have had airplane. First time lasted abiut 4 years before leaking, last time about 9 months.
  12. Hell if it doesn't work just send it back to Garmin after cleanup and claim ignorance. That is what flat fee repairs are for. Doubtful they would notice a needle prick in the rubber.
  13. To clarify, what I think in my head does not get translated to words or speech for that matter. 2000 ovation all flexible hoses are dated 2000. There is a clear hose that goes from the reservoir in tail access forward to a T fitting under pilots feet. That has some layer of sediment in it. I am not replacing the steel hoses. There are flexible hoses that run to the calipers in the respective wheel well, and way underneath the front panels near the firewall where all of these additional flexible hoses are located, the hard to get ones are steel wrapped. These are the ones I need motivation to do the right thing on and replace. They are 22 years old. I am thinking do this now and I am good for another 22 years...... Unfortunately no pictures of the black film. when we were bleeding the brakes with the pot from the calipers this fluid was being ejected, the theory is something in the hoses degrading which leads to this whole question. Someone mentioned mechanic, my preferred mechanic who I discuss this with has zero time, my secondary mechanic while OK is not a huge fan of doing extra work and this is a lot of extra work, he is also busy. I am more than capable of doing it, just time budgeting. And yes will be replacing the old fluid with synthetic, which isn't gooey just has that garbage in it.
  14. Finally decided to replace the leaking caliper, after last year annuals brake bleeding a bunch of black film came out of the system, my mechanic thinks it is something in the hoses degrading and seems reasonable to me. Decided to ignore it last year but now the caliper is too far corroded so I decided to fix it all……which is where the complications start. The hoses connected to the foot brake cylinders are buried deep under the outside panels requiring a lot more panel removal and disassembly than I planned. Now I am doubting my decision to do all this, which at this point isn’t much. The hoses that are inaccessible are covered in steel braid, the easy to replace ones are just regular black hose brake lines. They are rubber hoses, not Teflon based on part numbers. The clear hose leading from the reservoir has a collection of sediment in the bottom of it so something has clearly degraded and something needs to be done. I would hate to go to all the effort to purge the lines to only have the problem resurface again. My brakes have never been impressive in my opinion so this probably needs to be done, but I am just dreading it. What thinks everybody?
  15. Just talked to the Airtex folks, they are selling a plastic "aviation grade" polyethylene board. Probably same stuff you can buy at hobby store just 3 times the cost for the paperwork. Will go down that path to keep it legal. They also have the insulation of some kind. After I get the piece cut will apply some heat/fire and see what happens to the old piece.
  16. I had an issue with my FAA registration and was told it would take months....so I decided to redo the interior and now have a thousand pieces scattered about the hangar, in the meantime the FAA got my new registration to me in less than 2 weeks....go figure. I have the new carpet from SCS. It looks like the old carpet in luggage area was glued to some type of foam core posterboard? Please tell me there isn't an aviation grade supplier for this? Or can I just buy at local hobby store? What about replacing the insulation? The front panels/sidewalls have some type of foil backed insulation. Assume I could just use that?
  17. Well I never get sick in an airplane, as pilot or in back as a passenger. Normal flying, non aerobatic stuff. was down in the Keys last week, went on a snorkeling trip about 3-4 rolling seas, did fine on journey out, got in the water and that is when I decided to get sick, got back on boat and that is when I really decided to feed the fish. Was wiped out all day. I really like the water and my brother is supposed to be buying a sailboat, so I had better toughen up.
  18. Plastic screwdrivers only will help.
  19. Well I took the easy way out and just tightened screws up a bit.....that didn't work. Will get a new gasket ordered and install per instructions
  20. After a sabbatical on this project.....i got in there and cleaned with acetone. Saw a drip come off the fuel pickup connection. Will gently tighten the screws a bit, but one of them is hidden behind the fuel pickup tube which presents some problems. Does anybody know if this gasket is readily available?
  21. The FAA wastes so much money to start with, controllers retiring at 55 or so, or the massive empty concrete/asphalts I see at a lot of small rural airports, gold plated FBOs that cost $400 sq. Ft, runway expansions that cost $15 million for another 500 feet (KFCI), etc. and so on. Use the money you have wisely maybe we can discuss more money after that.
  22. Before I start a super involved research and trouble shooting plan.....want to get everybody's opinion on these leaks. This is right at wing root on pilots side. There is only a tiny amount of wetness around what I assume is the main fuel pickup and the 4 rivet looking things are noticeablely wetter. I poked my head up in the wheel well and felt around a bit and slight trace in there. Nothing is dripping. Should I clean them off real good and positively identify where it potentially is coming from or leave the witness stains? I am in the middle of redoing carpet (another thread topic and down for a registration issue) so time is not super critical. Just want to get it done economically and timely. My mechanic repaired one leak years ago and no issues so he has the skills sets but he likes having some ideas before tackling complex tasks. Mark
  23. This seems to be an ongoing topic.......I have nothing positive to add. Mine leaked, bought the knots to U door seal, spent many hours removing the old one which came off in crumb size pieces, glued the new one on carefully and the damn thing leaks more now than it did before. My friend did the same kit and no improvement. I think the huge variety of handbuilt door dimensions is the issue. I think what I am going to do to correct mine is carefully slice it open and insert additional pieces of foam to build it up in the areas where it leaks. Or try the inflatable door seal which for some reason isn't approved for the ovations, but my mechanic says he will sign off as some type of field approval/minor modification.
  24. I have a 2000 ovation and the fuel fairy might put more in than recommended based on fuel pricing or distance to go but when I filled to the bottom of what people are call the tabs the gauges showed 2-3 gallons short. I think there is a slot on one side of the filler, is that what we are calling a vent? When the tanks are filled full-full I can get an extra 4-5 gallons but it takes a minute but I think I am a long way from this extra theoretical amount 44.5 to 51. I know I have extra gas as the fuel totalizer shows fuel being used for about 4-5 gallons before the fuel gauges start moving. I think my fuel gauges are very accurate, I don't trust them but on my long legs they seem to indicate accurately. I don't see how any modifications to the fillers would be easy, I believe the whole contraption is riveted in place?
  25. Where do you find the foam for the seats? My friend who does this isn't charging me any labor, so I got that going for me, but I do need new foam and my half ass google research hasn't led me anywhere yet.
