  1. Reminds of when I played golf with a guy with one of those automatic electric carts to carry your bag, as I was asking him about it the cart turn a bit too sharp and it missed the bridge and went onto the creek. I'll pass, thx
  2. Maybe he meant southwest Texas. I've been there and can confirm missing coverage.
  3. The embed version of the video link, playlist causes problems for Tapatalk , the more simple link should work:
  4. No way would I try to fly the final at 1.1Vso, only 6 mph margin for error: instrument error, wind shear, pilot error...POH uses 1.3, that's what I use. 1.2 if short field and winds relatively benign. I also add 50% to my POH landing distance as a margin of error.
  5. The 60-2 fits in the same spot as a 30 or 50, which makes me think upgrade costs would be minimal. For those with altitude hold, if you are not holding altitude and varying by up to +/- 100', I found if trim is just a bit off prevents this.
  6. The first thing my MSC did was replace all the hoses, they were "only" 20 years old. I don't think there is a definitive standard.
  7. I'm going to take a guess that you do a lot of PowerPoint presentations in your day job. [emoji1]
  8. Deja vu all over again....
  9. As if he had any control once he popped the chute . . . Does pulling the chute automatically kill the engine?
  10. I'm going to ask obvious ?, did you check the logs?
  11. If you listen to the ATC audio, in the end he down to 11gal, 25 mins. It's also apparent he is way out of his comfort zone, way behind. I know Cirrus have excellent avionics and I believe AP with glide slope capture, if I was him I would have request a GPS approach via IF instead of being vectored, then he would have just activated the approach and let do the hard work. They were vectoring him around and switching approaches GPS, the ILS...it was just TMI for him to handle.
  12. My 78 is 91-92dB at 2400rpm cruise. In regards to your son, with Bose you can plug iPod into it it will play music which might entice him to wear them. I would experiment at home, maybe they're too tight.
  13. Might want to start a topic "Mooney support?" On the Avidyne supprt forum: http://forums.avidyne.com/forum_topics.asp?FID=16&title=dfc90-dfc100-digital-autopilot
  14. We need a FAQ, MS search brings up to much noise IMO
  15. 1.3Vo
  16. I think the only objection to Whelens are the price.
  17. It was 5 years and 400 hours ago. Depending on the extent of the damage, it wouldn't bother me at all as long as the repair was done by a reputable shop and looks fine. The advantage is that it got an overhaul and new prop and paint job. Did your plane have a gear up?
  18. Why? Because any gear up is going hurt resale, especially a recent one. As I said in the other thread, older planes are going to have blemishes and damage history, somewhat expected, but 2010, just too recent unless you got a great deal and plan on keeping it for a long time. Would definitely need a extensive prebuy.
  19. It looked like it had deicing boots, never seen a Mooney with that option.
  20. I would not be too afraid of older gear ups that were repaired by a reputable shop. You will find many Mooneys have a gear up history. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1986 wouldn't be an issue, but 2010 would be.
  21. It's rare to see a 30+ year old plane with no damage, everyone I looked at had some minor hanger rash or hail damage.
  22. I'm biased since I have a 78J but: Higher SMOH does not bother me, I bought mine with 1600hrs, just have to be prepared for a possible overhaul in the future, which is also possible on a 400 hr engine, if it's been abused or been sitting. If you plan on upgrading, the J has more upside, it's simply more desirable than vintage models. Devil is in the details, when I was looking I would see what looked like a nice plane from an ad that up close was not so nice.
  23. Is there a actual name for this certified box?
  24. In particular, the landing donuts, $1200 about every 15-20 years, the gear motor (back spring every 1000 hrs) overhaul which is about $2000. YMMV
  25. The rechargeable batteries last 50 hrs in the Bose, so there really isn't a big need for the Lemo plugs, IMHO
