  1. I have same problem, already tried cleaning contacts, when I tap on gauge it alternates from working to not. I think there is a place that you can send to have them overhauled.
  2. They are cheap enough to buy and small enough to store in plane just in case.
  3. Does anybody know how much the back spring has to flex? If it's not much it could last forever, our wings flex all the time, we don't replace them. With out knowing exactly how the spring, actuator works, it's hard to make an inform opinion on how much stress the spring is under.

  8. IIRC, the footprint looks different, some customization maybe require to install the new relay.

  11. I did a query of NTSB DB, looking for Mooneys (J or later) and keyword spring which matches locations mostly, could not find any references to landing gear problems and back spring, FWIW

If checking voltages, you need to do it with the circuit active, if there is no current, there may be no voltage drop unless the there is a complete break in the circuit, a corroded connection would allow the other side to show voltage, but will not pass enough current to drive the starter. Had this problem with a CB (brand new).
  13. I agreed the decision to buy should be an emotional decision, but selecting the plane should be analytical. I did without the formula, just a table of candidates with respective options of each so I could compare apples to apples. I studied the various for sale sites for 6 months before I got serious. Take your time.
  14. If you are hearing the relay click, that tells me the switch is good. It could be a bad connection, or a bad contact internal to the relay. Spruce has relays for $70 that are approved/certified (Skytech STS-S12), I would replace it and while at losen the starter cable connections, clean them, an retighten. Any bad connection in the chain could cause what you are seeing, including ground contacts, battery cables.
  15. My plane had a new engine installed in 96 by the "Plane Doctor", 81 hours later the right mag fell off in flight, with the internet these days, I would make sure everyone about it.
  16. What's process for fuel stops? Full customs entry,exit? Is DR easier than Bahamas or T&C?
  17. Mine is in same location, it's hard to tell the temp from the factory analog gauge, but it might be a little warmer, but not 10, maybe 3-4C. This is with cowl flaps closed in level flight to insure cleanest air flow.
  18. So are they still making back springs for the Eaton actuator?
  19. I have a 78 J, so I believe I have a Eaton actuator, are they equivalent, same design? Do they have same 1000 hr requirement?
  20. FYI, Mooney (looks like a J to me) was used in last nights NCIS episode.
  21. I've found they are pretty good when comparing my Econ cruise numbers, I've never used the sealevel charts, I don't cruise much at sea level. The newer POHs don't have the tables, instead have the horrible graphs..yuk! The tables they do have don't have speeds. Are there other errors you've found?
  22. I think I see what your saying, just for 85% the sea level FF is higher for same MP, it's interesting the app I use for power settings keeps the FF the same for both altitudes, agreeing with the 2000' numbers, as expected.

It's because you have excess fuel, it provides cooling but doesn't burn, when you lean you reduce the fuel flow, till the point of perfect proportion, peak EGT, and a little more gives you LOP, gives you a little extra air, but insures maximum fuel efficiency because all the fuel is burned. The engine doesn't burn the 15.8gph, probably more like 12, the rest is going out the tail pipe.
  24. I would add FIKI to a turbocharged plane gives you a go anywhere, anytime plane...without it your still somewhat limited. If I had the money for an acclaim I would definitely add FIKI.
  25. Once you know what power settings you need, I agree. You should be able to figure these out easy enough on your own before starting IFR training.
