chrisk Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 My bird just got out of the Avionics shop. It seems the stall warning horn is over the speaker, but not through the headsets. The problem is that it is hard to hear with headsets on. So, where does your stall warning horn sound? Quote
Marauder Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Through the Sonalert mounted above my head and right next to the gear Sonalert. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 One of the various (louder than your headset) sonalerts, I believe... Neither, the headset or speaker for that matter. Best regards, -a- Having the stall warning go off in your headset could add to the confusion that is causing the stall to begin with... Quote
Piloto Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 There is the possibility that you may mistake the gear warning for the stall warning during landing. If you are over 60 trust me this can happens and you may end up with a gear up landing. To avoid this happening to me I installed a Voice Alert http://www.flyingsafer.com/2040.htm that by voice it says "Check Landing Gear". I have it wired to the audio panel un-interrupted input. The voice comes over the speaker and headphones. Very handy on go arounds and minimuns instrument approaches. José Quote
jlunseth Posted August 13, 2013 Report Posted August 13, 2013 Me too. I have the Icarus SAM that gives a "GUMPS" alert and a "STALL, STALL" for the stall warning. The stall warning also visually flashes across the face of the control button for the SAM. The GUMPS alert is triggered when you set a destination altitude (which I do for every flight), and it goes off at some altitude above that, I think its 1,200 feet but don't recall for sure. At a certain age and having been to enough rock concerts the high frequency warnings are not very effective. Quote

I test the gear down alert frequently - just to be sure Quote
chrisk Posted August 13, 2013 Author Report Posted August 13, 2013 Through the Sonalert mounted above my head and right next to the gear Sonalert. This is why I love Mooneyspace. I just assumed the stall and gear warning came through the speaker. It totally makes sense for a separate sounding device and now I know it is called a Sonalert! Quote

I have gotten to be quite a connoisseur of the Mallory Sonalerts. My Aspens will drive them for altitude presets. I found a nice pleasant one to remind me. They have a great website that allows you to hear them. http://www.mallory-sonalert.com/3_0.htm Quote

I was awoken this morning to a nice text message saying I needed to get to shelter NOW because a tornado was coming! Quote

Neither my A&P nor my avionics shop have any great ideas. The problem seems to be in the radar altimeter rather than the throttle limit switch. Quote
