chrisk Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I'm thinking of getting a Emerging Lifesaving Technology 406 Mhz with built in GPS when it's time to update the battery on my old ELT. I'm just curious how easy these are to install? How many hours am I looking at? Any other good choices? Quote
triple8s Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 New antenna, new remote, and if you do it by the book they are supposed to check the mounting by loading it in four different direction. 450 newtons or 100 lbs ( I think) and the mounting location musn't flex more than 1/8 inch or something of the like. My old elt was mounted inside the baggage compartment on the interior panel. Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 I put one of those Emerging Lifesaving Technology 406 MHz ELTs into the "C" last year. It took about 8 hours overall. I reused the existing mount (as permitted) and put the antenna (with internal doubler) just above the rear avionics rack. Running the cable through the interior to the panel took a good part of the time, as did fabrication of the doubler and riveting it to the skin. Quote
