Precise Flight Speedbrakes

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday. 

 

Anyone ever had or heard of problems with Precise Flight Electric Speed Brakes?  My left one will not remain extended during ground test (right O K), but inflight, it will work fine after cycling the switch one time.   It extends then quickly retracts.  Can't tell if its a mechanical, electrical or controller issue.  Thought someone else may have similar experiences.

Are both going down? There is an asymmetric extension box which will make them both drop if they don't extend within the programmed time.

There is a clutch in the speed brake assembly to make them drop.

There is a DC motor that drives the speed brake up and down. If the motor or gears need lubrication, it will run slow and the asymmetric box will time out and drop them.

The manual for the speed brakes say they should be lubricated annually, most are not.

Like everything else in aviation, they will need to be serviced from time to time. Get 'em pulled and sent in to Precise for a rebuild.

Most likely needs lubrication. Cheaper option over sending it in. Watch the speed brake open on the ground, I bet it's not fully open, then pops back down? It's a safety feature. Take it to a mechanic who has experience on them and NEVER pull them out of the down position, you could damage the system.
