mooneygirl Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Here is the link from AOPA, interesting reading. http://www.digitalburg.com/artman2/publish/WAFB_News_57/A-10_pilot_guides_civilian_pilot_to_safe_landing.shtml Quote
Jeff_S Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Yes, several discussions in the MAPA mailing list about whether or not the VFR-only pilot was legal to be above a solid cloud deck. Of course, we don't know how it all happened but from the article as presented, it seems to be either some poor aeronautical decision making or a really bad set of circumstances. The article talks about how the A-10 driver used his formation flying experience to help the pilot even in the clouds. That would take some guts, to fly formation with a VFR-only pilot who is obviously quite nervous about instrument work. But the outcome was good so I guess that's all that matters. Quote
Buster1 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Cool! We can't go that slow even with gear and flaps (flaperons). Would have been different if some Vipers were there to help. Good thing for the A-10...nicely done. Quote

HawgDriver Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 The flight lead who helped out is an old friend of mine...his wife was an air force pilot too and a current CFI. Good thing it wasn't a Piper...even the Hawg wouldn't have been able to get slow enough! Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 HawgDriver, welcome! I wishi I knew you were in CLL....I was there on the 17th and it would have been nice to catch you at the airport! Quote
HawgDriver Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Thanks for the welcome. Don't worry about not catching me at the airport - while 9348M is there, I am not. I'm actually in Afghanistan for a while longer. My wife has her PPL but we (read I) haven't gotten her up to speed on flying the Mooney solo yet. You go into CLL often? Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Not often enough! I didn't make any home games last year, but so far for this season have the Mizzou game (Oct 16 I think) penciled-in. The 17th was an impromptu decision since our Mooney fly-in at Llano got delayed due to weather, so I went to CLL for the Maroon and White game + Freebirds instead. Stay safe over there! Hopefully we can meet in the fall if you're back by then. Quote
HawgDriver Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 When is / was the fly-in at Llano? I go in there all the time as I have family that lives there. What fly-in group is it? Where can I get notified of TX fly-ins? I know, lots of questions but CLL is horrible for GA and I can't find good information on TX GA stuff. Cheers, -HD Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 HD, here is a good place to start: http://www.vintagemooneygroup.com/VMGSouthCentral/index.htm You can sign up for reminder emails, too. There is a fun video, but unfortunately Dave didn't catch me arriving. I landed right after the Cherokee, but at least you can hear my radio calls. Quote
mooneygirl Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 There is a Fly-In to San Antonio Texas this weekend at Stinson Field. For more information and other events you are welcome to check out Mooney Ambassadors. We will also be at AirVenure at OshKosh this year. http://www.MooneyAmbassadors.com Quote

HawgDriver Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Quote: JimR HD, I wanted to tell you publically how much I enjoyed your formation photography. They are some of the most interesting that I have ever seen that included a Mooney. Well done and thanks for posting them! Jim Quote
HawgDriver Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Thanks everyone for the pointers to resources. Maybe I'll start catching up to some of them in late June or July. Quote
carusoam Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Mooneys and Hawgs, perfect together.... Saw this opportunity early one morning at SnF. Thanks again to those that fly / serve for this great country in which we fly. Best regards, - a - Quote
