Apollo Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Well I've been asked by my SO to name some aviation things I want this year: My question, has anybody got a good handheld radio they'd like to recommend? Here are some things I got last year that I just LOVE Last Years List: http://www.sportys.com/PilotShop/product/16597 iPad Kneeboard http://www.sportys.com/PilotShop/product/15935 Please add your wishlist and things you got last year! John Pursell Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 Would a Mooney be out of the question? Quote
Jeff_S Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 To answer your question, you can't go wrong with the Sporty's handheld. Now it actually will do a full ILS with glideslope, which is pretty amazing if you think about it. I have the older one which will do VOR/LOC but no glideslope. Truth is I've only had to use it once, and that taught me a valuable lesson. It's great to keep batteries in it, but if you live in any kind of climate with humidity you also have to periodically clean the contacts on the plugs for the headset adapter otherwise it ain't gonna' work! aviatoreb Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 A Spitfire..... I'll bite: That's a really nice airplane. 1 Quote
fantom Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I'll bite: That's a really nice airplane. Yep....very fast and maneuverable but not easy to handle and quite demanding. Once mastered, it's oh so rewarding. Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 What happens when you slam the big red button? Does it make the clouds out front go away? Quote
stevesm20b Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 You guys can have the Spitfire. I'll take the girl. Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 You guys can have the Spitfire. I'll take the girl. What girl? There was a girl in the picture? Oh yeah - darned if there was! I mean girls are nice and all - but that's a Spitfire! Quote
jetdriven Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 The Spitfire is rarer, more dependable, and less expensive per ride. 2 Quote
mulro767 Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I wish this supported Foreflight. It would then be on the top of my list. Or maybe WingX Pro as a stocking stuffer? http://www.xgps170.dualav.com Quote
carusoam Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I can't follow that... I'd like to, just can't... -a- Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 A tail dragger? Gorgeous! Is that a radial engine? Quote
DrBill Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 I'm happy with the low price Yaesu HT. VXA-220 (c $170). I had an ICOM for many years and never used the NAV portion. Suddenly it would not work from battery, only on DC or AC adapter so I gave it away and bought the Yaesu. Works good and I only use the Alkaline battery pack. I don't use it enough for the recharables. BILL Quote
stevesm20b Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Spitfires and Tail draggers! I guess we can all dream. Quote
rbridges Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 A tail dragger? you think the plane is expensive to maintain, wait til you see how much the starter costs. 1 Quote
