dpfeffer Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Hey Gang, I'm purchasing another Mooney project that will require a new instrument panel for the pilot side. It has the original shotgun style panel that needs to be replaced. I have the capability to make the panel from scratch, but would prefer to buy it to save time if the price is reasonable. I'm not looking for a 201 style panel, just a replacement for the old style. The attached pic is the style I'm looking for. Anyone know someone that still fabricates these, or has an existing DWG for the outer mold line? Thanks!! David
KSMooniac Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Try LASAR. They might have a leftover, or could easily make one for you.

danb35 Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 On my plane, the four (factory) panel lights are for low/high vac, and gear up/down. No stall light.
MooneyMitch Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Quote: N601RX I have the cad drawing I drew up when I made mine a few years ago. It has the outline and all the instrument cutouts and is dimensioned out so you can make it on a manual or CNC machine. The instrument spacing is set up allow Nulights to be installed withouth having to trim them. PM me with your e-mail address and I send you a copy of it. I've shared it with several others who have made panels from it also.
scottfromiowa Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Hendricks Mfg. (owner flies a Mooney and is a MooneySpace member) made my pilot panel.

MooneyMitch Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 Agree on Hendricks Manufacturing Panels. Lyle does fine quality work.
1964-M20E Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Aynbody know what a ball park price for a E model co-pilot side panel woudl be?
MARZ Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Check out Frontpanel Express - this is my "almost finished product" I left the final curvature trim to be done on site. IIRC the left side was less than $140 - the right side was @ 80
KSMooniac Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 That looks nice, Mike! Too bad you didn't get a fake woodgrain finish on the new panel, though. :-P
Lionudakis Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Maropers, Panels look good ! I checked out that company, I'm might get started sooner than later.
rodney Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Maropers, The panel looks nice. I also checked out front panel express and downloaded their software. Did you design this panel using the front panel designer software or in another cad program and then import it somehow. I may use this to make some placards. Looks promising. Rodney
jbgood11X Posted August 26, 2012 Report Posted August 26, 2012 LASAR HAS A GREAT PANEL AT A REASONABLE COST AND THEY ARE EXCELLENT WITH ANSWERING ANY QUEST. YOU MIGHT HAVE THEY CALL IT AN OWNER PRODUCED PART AND SEND OUT A PAPER BLANK WITH 2 DIFFERENT DESIGNS YOU PICK THE ONE YOU WANT AND SEND BACK THE PAPERWORK 11X JOHN 1
dpfeffer Posted August 26, 2012 Author Report Posted August 26, 2012 Thanks guys!! Greatly appreciated!!
M20F-1968 Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 I have some panels which I made in the process of my rebuild. My avionics kept getting upgraded so I have a collection. You can email me at johnabreda@yahoo.com and I'll send some pictures. John Breda

I downloaded the software and it looks cool but would like to see what it looks like with a finished product. (also, the link to your pics didn't seem to work for me... if you have another link that shows them that would be cool too ) Thanks, Shawn
MARZ Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 email me and I send it to you mike.ropers@comcast.net
flyboy0681 Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 Instead of a totally new set of panels, are there any companies out there where I can send the original, black simulated cowhide panel to be stripped and painted? I see no value in having new panels cut when all of the existing equipment fits nicely as is.

If they don't have an in house bead blasting facility, they will know of one. Basically, you just remove your panels from the plane, they get bead blasted, then sent over to the powder coater where it gets coated any color and finish you want. Probably can get both panels done under $200. If you want engraving, or printed lettering on it, that's more. An avionics shop could help you do it, but you could proabably do it yourself and save some cash.
