Nobody buys a light piston single for the useful load…….

Although I can take full fuel and carry my favorite 470 lb of people and baggage for five hours, if we can stand to sit in the plane that long.

Maybe not, but there are several models that make pretty good load haulers. The M20F, the M20S and the Encore are often good load haulers.

The M20Fs often have >1050lbs which means you can fill the seats and go ~500nm.

If I put 175lbs per seat + 120lbs in the baggage compartment (max), I have enough useful load left for 40gls of fuel which is 3hrs plus a 1hr reserve with zero CG issues. I think you’d find that many C182’s would struggle to legally match my bird in range vs payload scenarios, yet their reputation as fill it and fly it airplanes precedes them.

I removed my seats for a hurricane relief flight and cubed out at ~670lbs of supplies. Plenty of UL left for pilot and fuel for the 300nm trip.

So maybe no one buys them for the useful load, but it’s ignorant to dismiss them until you’ve run the numbers.

Can you elaborate as to why you feel this way?

It’s not me that feels that way, it’s the market. That’s what they sell for. You can list it for whatever you want but that doesn’t define value.

Mooneys, especially vintage mooneys, are in low demand and don’t typically attract a high sale price unless fully modernized and for sale at a loss to whoever did the upgrades

this is not a “j clone”  it’s an E with J mods. It’s still a short body and not really comparable to a J for the reasons people look at a J over an E or a C or a B

why are you all over this line you’re going to get half the sale? Can you elaborate?

There’s more to consider when setting insurance limits than your perception of market value.

Just passionate about Mooney and really love my plane and this plane.  Nothing more, nothing less.  It took my former co-owner a year to sell the Missile.  He did sell it through Jimmy.  Got their ask.  You know that Lowly Missile that will never be an Ovation and for God sakes don't call it an Ovation clone so as to ruffle the feathers of the curmudgeons.  Ho! Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas.

Missile was 1111 useful load.

Don’t say that on a Piper or Cessna owners forum. The U207 and Cherokee 6/235 owners, among others, would bash you….

When I was flying hurricane relief (2+ hours from home field), I was the only single signed up with more than 350 lb capacity; with half tanks, I signed up for 600 lb. (and took as much as I could pack to the ceiling, with some in the front seat, maybe ~450 lb).

Same. When I showed up at Spruce Pine, the only aircraft that had more to offload, had a second engine.

Yes at 30% more fuel burn, that capacity come in handy.

I flew at 13gph.  1100 climb.  170+ knots.  The platform was awesome.

I’m sure it is, but there’s no getting away from the fact that you’re burning 30% more gas to go 11% faster.

He could have flown a Bonanza, 14-15 gph for 165 knots . . . Or ~45% more fuel and 8% more speed . . .

Missiles are great planes. I wanted one a while back, but no longer need it in retirement.

I taxied out for a trip for New England a few months ago behind a beautiful 2009 G36 Bonanza. We both returned from our day trips at a similar time. I ran the block speed numbers from fightaware. IIRC his block speed was 154kts and mine was 149kts.

Not really. Hull value is an agreed market value of the airplane. That’s literally what it is.

Those are a bit more than “light single engine”

I’m truly impressed by all of the thought and experience in this post. I wish I could give something back to you but it’s clear that you are simply smarter and more experienced than almost anyone on this board. Thanks for the insights.

Wait to re-weigh ha

I don’t have to reweigh. It’s been in the family since it left the factory. I have every weight and balance revision since new. It’s varied by a whopping 25lbs over the last 57 years.

I think his F is probably legit.  My F had 1035ul and I had a couple heavy things left on it (3 blade prop).

My current 252/Encore conversion has 1090 on a brand new reweigh after a big avionics upgrade.  That’s a pretty solid UL at 10.4gph (cruise) and 175knots!

I paid $75k for the Missile.  How bought you for that extra 5 knots (just kidding The K is a magnificient airframe)
