I'm an official LOP'er! Out of curiosity really, I performed some GAMI tests on today's flights. I swept the mixture from full rich to full lean (roughness) and back to full rich very, very slowly. I did this four times and I believe I got really good reproducible results. The GAMI spreads ranged around 0.2 to 0.4 gph!! Stock injectors and standard Champion plugs!! Much to my pleasant surprise!!

The difference in airspeed I noticed was 157 KIAS rich to 152 KIAS leaned well below peak at 8.5 gph. The CHT's ranged 304-346. OAT was around 85 F.

Looks like my stock engine likes LOP!

Also performed several ignition tests cycling the mags at LOP. All really good with very very minimal single mag roughness.

No bugs, it's me! I hope you guys will pray for my soul while I sit in that fiery Lycoming hell. It can't be that bad! I'll be LOP!! Laughing Don't they call it pergatory or something?! I can only hope it's a temporary stay!

Congrats on the LOPing!

You were getting 157kts indicated? Today??? It's been hot, humid with low pressure all day up and down the eastern seaboard.  What kind of KIAS do you see in in February?

Someone get this man a doctor!   Smiley

Welcome to the Dark Side, Peter.  Congratulations, you just took the most efficient 4 seat GA airplane available, and made it 7-10% more efficient. You do lose 3-5 knots, but look at that FF.

Just watch those CHTs and in a few hours you will be able to do the "Big Mixture Pull" to the lean side and catch it right when it slows slightly.  Dang near set it by feel. Then tweak from there. Or as Jim R. says, set it to 8 or 8.5 GPH and forget it.

Now if we can get John Pleisse converted, we can all go down to the river together, and big family LOP baptism.   Smiley

Dont forget the suntan lotion.
