Markku Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 I am replacing the #4 push rod exhaust tube on my IO360-A3B6 due to oil cooler baffle cutting into the tube. Easy to remove the 2 springs at the case part # 15H21201, but I am struggling to rotate the springs into position. Anyone have a trick for doing this? Thanks Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 The pushrod springs on the Lycomings are not their best ideas… Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Actually, if you lube the seals with DC4, you can get the springs to line up and click together with the tabs pointing up, then you can rotate the springs and the tubes till the spring tabs point to the other tube. 1 Quote
MB65E Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Wrap the tabs/holes with .040 safety wire and support the tube with a wrench. Rip and pull hard quickly. A little lube on the ramps works well too -Matt Quote
Markku Posted Monday at 08:12 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 08:12 PM I came up with a trick that worked beautifully. I took a 4" piece of gray 3/4" pvc tubing and split it in half on my bandsaw. I then placed duct tape on the inside of the two cut pieces. The duct tape adds a none slip feature. I put the two halves around the push rod shroud and with a pair of pliers clamped the two halves and rotated the shroud until the springs snapped into the notches. The long end of the spring with the hole rested against the case and kept it from rotating. The Lycoming manual just says to rotate the shroud until the spring notch locks into place. Easier said than done. Thanks for all the replies. 2 1 Quote
