Hello!

What are my options making this look prettier?  I saw some people have an aluminum trim with embossed markings, that would be nice to have.  Or anything else that's a bit prettier.

Thanks!

I’ve entertained removing the royalite overlay altogether, painting the underlying aluminum flat black (or whatever color you desire) and printing labels for the switches, controls, etc.  The anodized panels Mooney installed on later years may work out, maybe not.  This issue is eating away at me, too.

I should have done ‘something’ when I had the engine control cables replaced a couple years ago, as the rest of the switches and cable controls would need to be removed in order to do a ‘decent’ job.  Sorry, I’m not much help, just commiserating with you on a common problem.

I’d be interested to hear of better solutions, other than a total left/right instrument panel replacement.  But, that might be what it takes to do it right.

There are some shops that make custom panels.  Normally for full panels, but they should be able to do that piece.

Normally, the draft the piece, the CNC route the panel.  Then they powder coat is in the color of the text (white for my panel), then powder coat with the overall color.  Then they laser etch the top layer for the text, so the underlying color shows through.  Finally, they powder coat with matte clear.
