Hello,

I have owned my 1965 M20E for almost a year now. I recently had the nose tire field replaced which I think may have something to do with it. The issue is that I have recently been hearing a rattling type noise from in front of me as I am sitting on the ground. It does not occur when I startup, taxi and takeoff; but rather once I am powering to idle for the round out, or on the ground taxiing for shutdown. It does not matter if the airplane is moving or stationary, the noise still happens. It occurs right at 1100 RPM thru about 1300RPM or when the engine noise is so loud that it covers it up. Any ideas on what it could be would be appreciated!

Could be a number of things.  Engine mounts may have sagged and now something is touching.  I had an odd buzz many years ago at mag check RPM….it turned out that the former on one of my cheek cowls had cracked and would buzz at certain power settings.  That took a long time to figure out, but a simple repair cured that.  Worth pulling the cowl to see what may have moved…

These problems can be super frustrating.  I had a buzz during taxi and searched all over. Turned out to be the top cover on my instrument panel.  The 3 screws wiggle themselves out and start vibrating.  I now know when i hear that, time to try to wedge a phillips bit in there and tighten the really hard to reach one.  So it could be something important like motor mounts or a loose screw on your panel.  Tough to say, but good luck!

To add on to the suggestion from @takair, you might do a runup of a few seconds with the cowling off to see if it still makes the noise.

Not sure on the E but on my J my overhead vents rattle at certain RPMs. Might be worth touching them and see if the rattle goes away.

Think I would start with what you suspect and check front wheel bearing end play. while you’re at it check for steering / suspension play and tire pressure.
