jetdriven Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 This is an incredible story about someone's attitude, and luck running out. http://www.aopa.org/asf/epilot_acc/era11fa036.html?WT.mc_id=120106epilot&WT.mc_sect=sap Quote
flyboy0681 Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 When I started reading this I was under the impression that he had a major case of getthereitis, but as I read on it appears he had a death-wish. Too bad he took his wife with him. Quote
Jeff_S Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 I knew this person through mutual business contacts, and had met him several times. He was definitely very proud of his Bonanza and a bit cocky. It wasn't hard to figure out what happened from the accident reports, but this narrative added some more pieces to the puzzle that I hadn't known...like the fact he had a history of bending airplanes in weather! I will say, that does fit with the character of the man as little as I knew about him. Quote
KSMooniac Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Unbelievable! What a fool. Sorry he took his wife with him. Quote
kris_adams Posted April 2, 2012 Report Posted April 2, 2012 Wow, from the article this was the third time he had damaged an airplane in bad weather. As they say, three strikes and you're out. Terrible for his wife and kids that were left behind. Quote
Lionudakis Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Sad that this happens to often, regardless of training, experience, and equipment, stupid mistakes. I've known two guys like this; both very bold pilots, both good friends, both dead, both took innocent people with them doing something rediculous. Quote
N9937c Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 There is a phrase for this. " you can't fix stupid" If his wife had been with him on one of the other occasions I CAN'T IMAGINE HER GETTING IN THE PLANE AGAIN! larry Quote

jetdriven Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 I bet she thought he was a great pilot. After the weather closed in on him, he managed to fight the controls and, although bending the airplane up, managed to use his superior skill to get the airplane home. Chuck Yeager #2. Presumably PDK, the home base, was the nearest airport after he bent the spars. Quote
