Plane crash near me in Plano

Recommended Posts

"The FAA has confirmed that only the pilot was on board when the plane downed outside of a shopping center located at 6509 W. Park Blvd. Sources tell WFAA that the pilot died in the crash. No one else has been reported injured".

Just posted by the BeechTalk user:

A friend found it on Live ATC archive. He was inbound to Dallas Airpark (F69) and he told Addison he couldn't find it in the dark. Ended up overshooting and ADS tower had him turn back around and he then said he had sight of the airport and was going to shoot the approach. Tower asks if he is going around and no response. This is verbage from a friend, I did NOT listen to it but it is so sad. I go in to Airpark all the time as our daughter lives very close. It is hard to find during the day, I bet it is VERY hard to find at night in the sea of lights around Addison.

Prayers to all involved!

The owner is age 87 or 88 according to an online database.

I will note two things, one of which may be unrelated to this accident:

- Please make sure go arounds and Stall avoidance  are part of your recurrent training, and even moreso as you age.

- for your safety, please remove sheepskin seat covers if they’re *at all* in the way of your manual operation of the trim wheel. I don’t care if you have electric trim.

Wonder if he was referring to the visual approach on a GTN or Avidyne GPS. They can make all the difference in finding a hard to see runway.

What does it display if visual is selected?  An extended runway centerline?  Sounds useful.

Lateral guidance to every runway in the database and many with vertical guidance when obstructions don’t disallow. Of course strictly a VFR aide to help to make a stabilized approach.
