Hi

My family and I are planning a trip to the Ark Encounter. Does anyone have a suggestion on what GA airport we should use? I would prefer not going to a major airport. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Curt

Is that in Arches National Park?   Moab, aka Canyonlands Airport is pretty good and probably closest.   You could also go to Grand Junction, which is also nice and has hotels, etc., much closer to the airport if that's important.

I enjoyed my trip to the top of the arch in St. Louis, but I didn't fly there. The elevators nickname is "the washing machine," and it's about that big for several people (not air conditioned).

We went to the Ark Encounter a couple of weeks ago when we attended the MAPA event in Lexington. We flew into KLEX, but you could fly into either 27K or KFFT as well.

In 2005 I flew to NYC with a colleague. We stopped the first day in St Louis (Spirit of St Louis airport) When we left in the morning, I asked approach if I could get a tour of downtown. He said I had to promise to not fly under the arch. I said OK He said I need to hear you read that back. So I said "I promise not to fly under the arch" and he gave be a vector to downtown.

I lived in St Louis when the arch was being built. I remember my class went on a field trip to watch them put the keystone piece in the arch finishing the construction. I have told people I was there, but I had no proof. PBS did a show about the arch a few years ago and showed film of the keystone day. And there they were three yellow school buses!

Yep Ark Encounter! Have you ever flown in there?

I have not flown in there, but like you I avoid big busy airports.
I find that ForeFlight is a wonderful tool to find airports with rental cars, fuel etc. It’s always better if someone has personal experience, but you can ferret out a good airport on your own with the right tools.

My son flew his family up there last year.  Went into k62, used the crew car to see the Ark and then after lunch flew to mammoth cave. He said the family liked the Ark experience the best.  Lee

K62 sounds like a good suggestion.  Cincinnati was not the most GA convenient airport I’ve ever been to.

For those interested in the Ark, don’t miss the Creation Museum nearby on the West. edge of the Cincinnati airport.

Thank you for your post! Looks like we will be using I67 Cincinnati West.
