RoundTwo Posted May 15, 2023 Report Posted May 15, 2023 Is there any special size/length helicoil needed for repairing hubcap threads in the magnesium wheels? Will 8-32x0.328” work? Quote
mike_elliott Posted May 15, 2023 Report Posted May 15, 2023 While never have done this personally, one of my clients' hangar elves carefully measured the depth of the existing hole, marked on the right sized bit with tape so he wouldnt drill too deep, then filled with JBweld, drilled and tapped. Says it was a great fix. Quote
MatthiasArnold Posted May 15, 2023 Report Posted May 15, 2023 To my best knowledge, European hangar elves successfully utilized this tool-set for the mentioned purpose in the past: https://www.voelkel-shop.com/en/thread-repair-kits-5-x-0-8-1-5d-volkel-04103.html Best, Matthias Quote

jetdriven Posted May 16, 2023 Report Posted May 16, 2023 Install it with green Loctite too. And then let it dry before you put the screw in there. Those things have a nasty habit of coming out with the screw which enlarges the wheel oversize yet again and it's really hard to fix that. Plus those wheel halves are pretty expensive when you price one. Quote
