I posted a WTB request for a prop.  I got a PM from someone that joined just before sending me the PM.

The scammer said he knew someone that has a prop for sale and gave me a bogus name & email.  I contacted the "seller" and he offered to sell me a NEW prop for $450 !   What A Deal !!!!

After a couple of email exchanges it became clear the scammer had no fr'gn idea what he was trying to sell ...

I have never seen this particular scam and if it was well executed could easily dupe a member out of $$$ !

THE KEY HERE IS :  KNOW YOUR SELLER !

Why are you guys trying to protect the identities of the scammers?

Scammers have feelings, too.

Posting a WTB is nothing more than an invitation to get scammed.  Like Crack, just don’t do it.

Since when ?  I have plenty of WTB  posts on different platforms and this is the 1st time I've had a scammer contact.  Ay any rate, very easy to rat these rats out ...

Because scammers cruise the WTBs knowing you are more likely to bite.  It’s a very well known approach, and fraught with copious amounts of stories just like yours. Buyer must be extremely aware as it’s easy to get duped.
