N177MC Posted July 14, 2022 Report Posted July 14, 2022 I posted a WTB request for a prop. I got a PM from someone that joined just before sending me the PM. The scammer said he knew someone that has a prop for sale and gave me a bogus name & email. I contacted the "seller" and he offered to sell me a NEW prop for $450 ! What A Deal !!!! After a couple of email exchanges it became clear the scammer had no fr'gn idea what he was trying to sell ... I have never seen this particular scam and if it was well executed could easily dupe a member out of $$$ ! THE KEY HERE IS : KNOW YOUR SELLER ! 1 Quote
Schinderhannes Posted July 14, 2022 Report Posted July 14, 2022 I got contacted by someone that just joined before sending the PM after posting a WTB request as well. The message had all the hall marks of a scam. Was the message from RO__ ? Quote

Unit74 Posted July 14, 2022 Report Posted July 14, 2022 Posting a WTB is nothing more than an invitation to get scammed. Like Crack, just don’t do it. Quote

I have plenty of WTB posts on different platforms and this is the 1st time I've had a scammer contact. Ay any rate, very easy to rat these rats out ... Quote

It’s a very well known approach, and fraught with copious amounts of stories just like yours. Buyer must be extremely aware as it’s easy to get duped. Quote
Schinderhannes Posted July 16, 2022 Report Posted July 16, 2022 Most of the times scams are fairly easy to spot. Quote
