Hi everyone, I have a pair of EFD 1000s installed, some of the original ones that were ever created (non max and before the pro designator). They support EVS but I have an issue. My software needed to be upgraded because the IOD was on a very old operating system. The upgrade went fine, but it wiped my EVS upgrade. In the process, I somehow lost my EVS upgrade card and Aspen won't supply me another one. They've stated I should upgrade them both to the Max (7K, which isn't a bad trade-in deal... but still.... I'm not exactly ready for all that, as I plan to do the S-TEC 55x full integration with it, adding another 3K).

Does anyone have an EVS card? It can be cloned if necessary (written as an ISO). I just want to get my PFD back up with running Synth vision as I'm basically paying for a Jepp subscription for nothing right now...

Tough request…

Especially as a first post…

On a new account…

When the logic doesn’t hold water very well…

You had your software updated… and it killed off another part of your software…

Why don’t you start with the person that did the awesome job of disabling your Aspens?

Extra points for posting pics of what you have in your Mooney…

See if you can separate yourself from the usual scam posts that pop up around here…

PP thoughts only, trying to be helpful…

Best regards,

Are you on Facebook? If so, send Andy Smith from Aspen a message describing your issue. The ESV should have been registered to you and hopefully Andy can help provide a replacement card for you. I find it hard to believe they can’t help you. Andy is the go to guy.

I have ESV but don’t remember getting a SD with the upgrade. I’ll look through my stash.

I don't see how it could possibly be a scam post, or how the logic wouldn't hold water very well. My profession is software, this kind of crap happens all the time and on all wakes and forms of hardware. If I could find my card, this would be a moot point. Pretty sure scammers don't know jack about an Aspen system or even know what ESV is let alone the acronymn IOD.

I started with the guy who did the install, out of Indiana, and he's the one who called Andy, and the tech told me they recommended I upgrade to the max along with the ACU2 replacement (since I have an ACU1) at the same time since I want to the full S-TEC integration instead of the standalone alt-preselect solution I have now that is really cumbersome. But I can call him / them directly.

Aircraft wise, I don't have a mooney, I have a twin cessna, but I was doing some research and googling and found a really old article (circa 2013) from this site where someone was selling their own ESV card, so I decided to register and ask around.

This isn't the greatest pic, as I took it the other day. I can take another of the system information menu if it helps any.

Also, no... i'm not on facebook. My wife does all the facebooking, and I'd even prefer she didn't. I don't trust zuckerberg (no offense), and I no longer like or agree with their platform and information privacy laws (sorry no offense to anyone.... i'm a crusty old software guy who's been around things since the mainframe days.... and 8086 computers).

Thanks for any help you can lend. I appreciate it! It's fine.... if I have to order a new one as a bridge before I do the complete swap out, I'll order another one.

Once the card is used to install Synthetic Vision, which describes all of ours, it registers on the card as "Zero Updates Remaining" and wouldn't work for you.  I guess if it was cloned before using it then that might be a possibility. Andy Smith at Aspen is very helpful. If you can show him proof that you purchased SV originally I think he'll be reasonable with a solution.

I appreciate it. I'll given Andy a call, maybe he can send me a new one or something. I just don't want to spend time having to ship the whole thing back and diagnose what went wrong when that's really the only issue I have, and be down a week or 2 before i get it back.

You have to hang out here for a few days…

The scams roll in starting with the user ID’s first post…

Most likely robotic…

They are armed with enough technical detail… they appear to be knowledgable in either Aspens or Garmin gear…

The reason the logic didn’t hold water very well… the first step is usually going back to the last person to make changes…

Most often, somebody will append their question to the thread that has the history of a problem and their solution… starting a new thread… puts you back in with the scams….

Triaging first posts can be kinda harsh…

We want to kill off the scams before they can spread…

Good luck with the Aspens…

Let us know how you fare…

Throw a pirep for Andy and his team.

toss a like and a thank you for the guys that helped you out…   :)

It can be tough being a human…

Go MS!
