zuutroy Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 Does anyone have an old J fuel cap lying around they would be willing to part with? It's from a 78, s/n 24-0586 in case any of the wizards here might know of other compatible part numbers. Thanks in advance! Quote
larrynimmo Posted March 17, 2022 Report Posted March 17, 2022 A year ago I bought 2 caps for $80 a piece to have at least one as a spare…I am willing to sell you one for $100 plus shipping if you have no alternative…I bought them to keep a spare on the plane and a spare in my hanger Quote

Grab a pic of the inside of the cap… it has the specific part number you will want to have… This way, it matches the fuel neck and locks in place properly oriented…. See if @OSUAV8TER is still in the fuel cap business… Best regards, -a- 1 Quote

I have sent an email to that user but nothing back as yet. In a bit of rush to get one! Quote
Guest Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I’ve seen a number of planes over the years with fuel caps that were indexed at the wrong angle, yet the caps bear the same part number. Be sure of the angle you need. Clarence Quote

The used fuel cap market is a crap shoot with the quality of used caps available. Try eBay or a salvage yard. I've been burned by too many aircraft owners that want something for nothing so I stopped doing fuel caps. 1 Quote

EricJ Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I bought a spare on ebay. It looks like there are still some there. 1 Quote
geoffb Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 I've got a couple left over from my E. Levers are a bit worn, but still serviceable enough. The caps don't wear, it's just the corner of the lever that rounds off and allows the levers to cam up. Quote

Great to have this board to turn to as someone far removed from the centre of the GA world! Quote
RobertGary1 Posted March 18, 2022 Report Posted March 18, 2022 They also wear out. The hole eggs out so the shaft seal doesn’t seal and I’ve seen the pivot handle at the top seize so it doesn’t rotate. Someone was talking about rebuilding them by drilling out the hole and pressing a new shaft into it Quote
