We had a new audio panel installed in our C.  While they were in there, I had them connect the JPI EDM-900 to the Garmin 430W.  Did a test flight today and downloaded the JPI data.   Before takeoff I entered a FPL into the 430.  Looking at the JPI data on Savvy's site, I expected to see "from-to" info field populated.   I did not see that.   Still empty.

I failed to verify that the 430 is receiving waypoint and fuel data from the EDM-900, so I have another test flight.

430 set to provide "Aviation" format data to the JPI, and the JPI is set to send option 1 "Shadin" format data to the 430.  No warning flags on either.

Anybody been down this road before?

Thanks,

Fred

The details are on the JPI website. But in sum, by default you only get fuel required to the next waypoint unless you change the setup on both the 430 and EDM to provide remaining fuel at your destination - which is much preferred IMO.
But i think this is independent of the seeing departure and destination which only requires GPS data going to the EDM. But when you follow the setup instructions on the JPI site for the setting to use on both the EDM and the 430 will fix that issue too. The fix does require going into setup/configure mode on the GNS to reset the protocol used on the port.

Thanks Paul.  I agree with your preference to have fuel remaining at destination.

Presently the EDM is set up to send Shadin format data, and the 430W is configured to send back Aviation format data.

The JPI website is byzantine.  I've had trouble finding definitive instructions on doing this setup.  If you can send a link to those instructions I'd appreciate it.

I have seen nice JPI data posted using Savvy website that included the to from data…

Really helpful while going through the downloaded JPI logs… where flights are stored by dates….

That's exactly what I was hoping to see but didn't.  Can't wait to continue troubleshooting this at the weekend!

My friend had similar issues on his.  It seems the latest software update does not quite line up with the books.  I’m sending you some emails.  Not intuitive, but somewhere in the emails is the answer.  It is likely a setting issue.  The exact fix escapes me at the moment, we tried a bunch of combinations.

On a related note, here's how the telemetry comes off the G3X EIS, which was a pleasant gee-whiz surprise. It's like a black box flight data recorder on your Mooney. The table is the data off the Sandisk card data pulled into Excel and a chart I made in trying to diagnose a hot #3 cylinder (not the topic here, but the EGTs were all the same).

Thanks Brent- that's cool.   I'm eager to get that data exchange working.

Brent, you’re going to too much trouble. Create a free account on SavvyAviation.com to upload your data and use the free analysis tools. Allows you unlimited storage of your historical data as well.

+1 for the free Savvy tools…

Really easy to use…

Really easy to share the data here…

Really easy to get pro help, when sharing the data doesn’t get you as far as you like…

PP thoughts only, not a data guru…

Best regards,

Fair point. Knowing some of the data stuff is free is a motivator. Thanks for the tip.
