Practicing what? What to tell investigators after a mid air?

You should come to a clinic.

That’s gonna be a solid no from me.

You don’t know what you’re missing then. I have over 600 hours in my Mooney and no other training I’ve had has honed my stick and rudder skills like formation flying.

I do know what I’m missing.

I was there in the original deleted thread that did its best to derail any conversation about any mishaps and then the following web of BS and misinformation.

Should I ever decide to formally learn formation flying it will not be through the caravan.

Lol, Chris if you have your mind set on formation flying or an organization because of a thread on mooneyspace then I guess there is really no point in you commenting on a simple video I posted that had nothing to do with that thread…

I would be happy to give you contact info for Bonanza’s, Cirrus’, or RV formation organization when or if you want to learn anything about formation flying.

The problem isn’t a thread on Mooneyspace. The problem is how the organization and those involved handled the situation here, and publicly elsewhere.

the problem is the integrity of (or lack of) the group and the people it’s made up of.

And again, I don’t have any problem with formation flying. I DO have a problem with formation flying with this group. I have experience with some of the RV groups.

If you can’t say anything nice….

Lets face it…

something terrible occurred.

How it was handled wasn’t nearly as terrible as the occurrence.

Sure, there is room for improvement…

The occurrence was years ago (more than one year has passed…)

What’s disappointing to me…

The constant bashing of formation flight and the Caravan….

Some of my favorite MSers have left the building….

Some people that are tremendous Mooney pilots and upstanding citizens of aviation and other arenas…. Are not coming around lately…

Its time to let it go…

There is always going to be people that don’t like the other group…

Bashing them, publicly disliking them, or other uninvited negativity… results in one thing…

Fewer people come back to share their Mooney flying experience and activities…

It gets tiring if you constantly hear…

  • Formation flying is bad…
  • Flying to minimums is bad…
  • Keeping your plane near the coast is bad…
  • flying is bad
  • Don’t leave the house

Compare your own experience with the Caravaners…

I was there that week…

I met many of the pilots in the caravan that week…

The caravan is an incredibly well run group of aviation clubs…

One of the biggest challenges of flying with other formation clubs… is their dissimilar aircraft…

So… if you want to fly formation with similar aircraft… the Caravan is THE way to go…

Go through the training, get your flying up to speed….

Then come back and explain why you liked one group over the other….

Spend more effort explaining why you liked something….  It is more helpful to the community…

put an end to the caravan bashing… so we can get those members back…

Best regards,

-a-

I did the caravan training several years ago and I flew the caravan into Oshkosh. I was nearly washed out because I did not get it how to fly the procedures. They took me under their wings and with a LOT of patience they helped me get to where I needed to be. So overall the training was excellent and I felt safe.

At the end I did fly the caravan. It was an amazing experience. Of course it was stressful, especially for somebody who had never done this before. I had all protocols in my mind, including what I needed to do if things did not go as I was expecting them to go. But everything went very well. A the end I was given my call sign BREAKER... (long story why that name...).

Some years later the incident happened... and you could argue that it could have been dealt with in a different way. But it was not, and the organization had to deal with the fallout. But at this point lets move on. Whoever likes to fly the caravan (and most likely I will once I am back in the states) let them do it...

My two cents...

What fallout did they deal with?  They lied about and hit the facts specifically to avoid dealing with fallout and responsibility.

Then they fabricated their own narrative about the incident, which you can now pay to hear about.

is that an organization you would want to be a part of?

Please take it up directly with them…

MS isn’t complaint space.

The Caravan is their own entity, unrelated to MS…

I would rather get Caravaners participating here more often…

Than to discuss how their non-profit handled their serious event…

Its kind of like mentioning that all planes in Florida are susceptible to corrosion…

this stuff doesn’t help keep people coming back….

To make it interesting… share your similar experience how you improved a safety issue, or responded successfully to a public outcry…

Call me out…but yes, I would like to be a part of that organization…

Best regards,

You must be confused.

this is a public forum, and this is the section in the public forum to discuss the caravan.

If I wanted to have a private conversation about the caravan I would have done so. I intentionally made a public comment, in the comments, on the Mooney caravan section, of a public Mooney forum.

If you don’t want to see comments you don’t like, start the Mooney rainbow and unicorn group.

Not to poke the bear of the caravan disapproving crowd, here is another short I made of some practice cross unders for those that enjoy caravan flying or those that understand formation flying.

It’s probably the fuel caps that caused the mid air

Since you’re in Florida and I’m in Oregon I can’t really join you but I would be happy to pay for you to go to a Mooney caravan clinic. You don’t have to fly formation with anyone since you don’t trust the whole group but I challenge you not to learn something going through the ground classes and prove how you are smarter than everyone in the room and don’t have the ability to change your views….. Just a challenge for you.

Never said I was smarter than anyone. I am more honest than those leading the group though.

In this case, the horse has plenty of water and isn't thirsty, and if I was, I wouldn't go to that sulfur hole..  Not sure what it is you were trying to say, but just throwing random proverbs that have 0 relevancy is crazy talk.

with that in mind,

He who smelt it, dealt it.  And the Caravan truly smells it.

Fussy’s Piper Comanche. He and Gizmo were in the aircraft.  Gizmo also has a Comanche, but his is down waiting

on a factory rebuilt engine. Both flew with the caravan last year. We rode out the big storm together in the Caravan big tent.  @M20Doc we do allow Pipers to fly with us:rolleyes:
