The wind recorded by the weather station and the wind you are flying in at the flare are often very different, and only the latter is meaningful. -dan Surface friction slows the wind speed near the ground. I believe the standard anemometer height is 10 meters. This is why it’s often possible land in reported crosswinds well above 11 kts. However, I find that if I’m near the limit of rudder control, gusts and mechanical turbulence are the biggest risk. Skip Quote
