a drop zone south of me lost a wrongful death lawsuit for a waivered skydive gone bad.18 yr old high school graduate celebrating his graduation resulted in a 40 million usd judgement....when it comes to kids deaths....juries are easily swayed after attys start poking holes in pilots experience level, age, equipment, weather etc.....

This is why drop zones are advised not to carry insurance and keep their assets to a minimum. When the attorneys see there’s not much money to be made, they walk away. And if there ever was a large verdict, bankrupt, good luck collecting.

Exactly what is happening in this case...the owner was held persoanally liable even though his setup uses independent contractors with him simply providing transportation...regardless he had no liabilty insurance and I am not sure you could even buy insurance covering skydiving. No matter what, you will eventually see fatalities.I am pretty sure he leases his aircraft and airport facilities month to month and doesnt keep any cash in an actual bank acccount to attach.I suppose they could get a Sheriffs order to raid the till but im sure they keep that under stocked. The phrase Ive heard is "judgement proof"Perhaps attys on this site can weigh in
