Mac201 Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I am preparing to repaint my J model. I was excited to begin looking at paint schemes, so I paid my $39.99 to sign up for .aircraftpaintschemes.com. What a waste of my money. They only have 30 Mooney schemes and most all are old and completely outdated. So, I have parted with my $40. Anyone considering the site, do not waste your money. Any suggestions on goods places to review cool Mooney schemes? Quote
jetdriven Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 Check the photo section here, there are some super nice ones. Jezzie just did one which is superb. So did Mooneygirl. Quote
Jeff_S Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 So the little missus finally agreed to spend the dough, eh? Where are you going to have 1RP painted? Quote
Lionudakis Posted December 3, 2011 Report Posted December 3, 2011 I looked through tons of pics on Flightaware, Airliners.net, and google images. Most any paint shop can re create a scheme with some photos. Another page is http://www.schemedesigners.com, again they don't have many schemes. Quote
Mac201 Posted December 3, 2011 Author Report Posted December 3, 2011 OK, Jeff you know that I am the man of the house and I can do what I want... Yes, I think my girl is on board for paint and interior. I am looking for shops; talked to Tri- D in Wetumpka, AL this week. Any prireps on them? I am excited to look at schemes, sorry for my grumpy post this morning. Quote
RJBrown Posted December 4, 2011 Report Posted December 4, 2011 When I painted my old plane years ago I got blank drawings of the plane. Like below. I made 50 copies and kept drawing till I got what I wanted. I did look at as many other planes for ideas but in the end did a one off design of my own. When I got close I would color it using felt pens and hang it in my office to see what I thought. I had dozens of Mooney drawings hanging around till I finalized the design. There are lots of pictures out there, use them for inspiration and find your own. I have a side view on my desk at work. Thinking about the grey plane getting color. Quote
Mac201 Posted December 5, 2011 Author Report Posted December 5, 2011 As an update to my post. I complained to www.aircraftpaintshcemes.com about their lack of Mooney paint schems and they refunded my payment. I guess they are better for other brands of aircraft. Thanks for all of the suggestions. It's fun looking at all the possibilities. Quote
kris_adams Posted December 5, 2011 Report Posted December 5, 2011 Very excited to hear about your painting adventure. I'm in Atlanta and will be doing the same thing in a year or so. Best of luck to you. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 There is a great option for Mooney paint schemes... Fantom and I have both used him with great success. He used to own a Mooney, and has some great ideas/schemes "in stock" but will iterate with you until *you* are happy and then provide detailed plans to the paint shop. Very highly recommended! PM me if you want his info. Quote

231Pilot Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Ditto to KSMooniac and fantom's posts. I just got my working drawings from the same designer they are talking about. He is good, and he is a class act! We spent about a month getting the design I wanted...he is a patient man. I am attaching a copy of the final scheme. My bird goes to the paint shop in January, I'll post pictures when she is done. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Very nice, Lew! He has a great eye for getting a scheme that works well with the challenging lines on a Mooney. Quote

fantom Posted December 14, 2011 Report Posted December 14, 2011 Quote: flyboy0681 And what a great success it is. Not to feed Gary's ego, but his livery is one of the best I've ever seen on a Mooney. It's really to be admired. Quote
