Sometimes it causes more worry than it’s worth.  I’ve had reports come back saying all is good, yet I have a pile of metal in the filter.

That was the case with mine, except no metal in the filter either. Those methods only work if you don’t fly very often. Otherwise the wear is so gradual that it goes undetected.

I've been using both Blackstone and AvLab for years.  I've had two samples that the post office completely lost, even though they were tracked.  I'll never use the post office again with the samples.  I've been using FedEx 2-day air and I get the Blackstone report emailed back normally just a few days after they receive it and AvLab takes a few days longer for some reason.

They need to ship it to Blackstone and get the results back? ;)

early last week overnighted oil samples to both AvLabs and blackstone....noting yet on either front.....WTF

Blackstone just told me this morning that because it was overnighted USPS that they dont recognize that as being a priority.  Only when it comes FEDEX or UPS they care.  So then I told her that I called last Thursday to see if they got it and when it would be done and she said they had it and would be posted by yesterday.  It was not.  Now they say sometime this week becasue they just received it Monday even though I called last week and they said they had it.

If throwing money at a problem does not work then I am done with oil analysis or at least Blackstone.

Only real value of oil analysis is, is people think there is value in it. So one day when you go to sell it, it will either sell faster or bring more money if you have a string of analysis to go with it.

I just do it to monitor trends. I throw it in the mail and forget about it. I examined the filter for any big chunks so I’m pretty sure the engine isn’t going to self destruct. In a couple of weeks Blackstone emails me a report. If it gets lost in the mail, I don’t really care since I’ll changing the oil again in a few months anyway and Blackstone doesn’t charge me if they don't receive it.

Usually the mail is in charge of losing oil samples...

If they know what it is... oil becomes a hazardous substance...

Hazardous and a fire hazard similar to paper envelopes, and plastic tape...   :)
