kpaul Posted October 5, 2020 Report Posted October 5, 2020 So none of that is chaff. They were dispensing flares. The flares attempt to draw heat seaking missiles away from the hot engines. Chaff is small bits of metal used to hide the airframe from radar guided missiles. 3 2

Best regards, -a- The flares come out of the aircraft in a pattern that tries to cover the heat signature of the engine. They tend to not launch correctly when the plane is pulling negative Gs or doing whatever else the Russians like to do. 1
