Mcstealth Posted July 24, 2009 Report Posted July 24, 2009 Six weeks away, the convention is in Kerrville, my home town. If anyone would like, we could have an informal gathering at my families restaurant, in a private room, where stories could be told and friends made. The restaurant is a full service, full blown steak house. We feature a full menu and extensive wine list. I will say right now that we are not the cheapest in town, but comparable to big city steak houses. We could maybe get a couple of guest speakers if there was interest. Cowboy Steak House, www.cowboysteakhouse.com Sincerely, David Quote
Mcstealth Posted July 29, 2009 Author Report Posted July 29, 2009 Well. I guess no one is coming :( Quote
DonMuncy Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 David, I guess no one else has said it, so I will. Thank you for your offer. Maybe we will get a chance to come by for a meal while we are there, but we don't have our plans solidified enough to make a commitment for a particular time or day. Don Quote
GeorgePerry Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 IMHO....K-Ville might be the home of Mooney, but it's in the sticks. Why would anyone decide to hold the MAPA convention there? I don't see the logic. Esp since the the factory is all but closed right now (hopefully that'll change soon) and there's nothing to do (except the cowboy steakhouse, which looks quite good). I can imagine the look on my wife's face if I said..."Hey honey lets fly half way across the country to Kerrville TX for a Mooney convention. After she said,..."Where...?" she'd say " Your joking right?" Just off the top I my head I can think of a dozen more appealing places to fly into...Like anywhere in FL, SoCal, Savannah GA, St Louis etc... Now those are places I could talk the wifey into going. Kerrville would be nice to see but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. Quote
LFOD Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I agree 100%. There is a flyin of the vintage mooney group at Friday Harbor, WA in August. Now that is a cool destination. I think they also did Lake Tahoe. Quote
Greg_D Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I'm pretty sure the site for the convention is decided upon pretty far in advance and I'd bet this year's site was chosen before Mooney decided to shut down. With the factory in operation, this would be a pretty good place to have a convention. I'm still perplexed by Mooney's decision not to attend Airventure in Oshkosh. How do they intend to sell planes if they cut the sales staff and then compound matters by not attending one of the biggest sales opportunities of the year? Quote
fantom Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Hey David....I'll be at MAPA, and I staying at the Inn. Call me crazy, but I love TX, was going to be flying over it the same week, and Boxstoberfest is being held in FRB on the 12th and 13th. Killing a couple of birds with the same flying stone. I hope to meet you there. The best MAPA I ever attending was held in Las Vegas, years ago! Quote
N207LS Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I can agree somewhat about Kerrville as a small town, but not as a location (especially with an airplane)... Fredricksburg, about a fifteen minute flight away is a great town with lots of fun things to do (B&Bs, access to Texas Wine Country, Luckenbach, German Restaurants, etc). Downtown San Antonio (about a 20 minute flight away) is also a fun place for an evening (great Mexican food Mia Tierra, riverwalk, etc). Finally, Austin is just a quick hop away too. Great bands and nightlife. So while Kerrville may be less than the best destination, your Mooney will serve you well while you are in the neighborhood to see and enjoy some great places. I wish that I could go, but my Mooney will be in San Marcos, TX being painted during the convention. I will try to make a stop by the cowboy steakhouse on my way back from San Marcos. Aaron Quote
wmrunyon Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 I will have to agree with George. There is no way i could talk my wife into going to Kerrville. She would run out of things to do very quickly and the hotel is a bit dated. I stayed there last year waiting for a repair on my plane (would not start when i picked it up after an annual!!) and it is the best thing going for the area; but for a destination convention, the hotel is marginal. If i attend, my wife will stay at home. Bill Quote
MooneyMitch Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 We will not be able to attend the MAPA convention this year. We spoke with Trey and Lela here at the MAPA both and explained that we unfortunately have work commitments that week/weekend. It is a most exciting time here in Oshkosh this week and we feel most fortunate to attend...............and I feel most fortunate to have a Mooney pilot wife!!! Anything about airplanes and she's on it!!! Yippee!!!! Quote
RobertoTohme Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 David, even if I can't make it to the convention, I'll take your offer and will give you a heads up next time I'm headed east and will stop at Kerrville to go and have a steak with you. Cheers. Quote

DrBill Posted September 6, 2011 Report Posted September 6, 2011 Well, I got a kitchen pass to go to my First MAPA convention. Delta wants $200 round trip and Mooney gas is $300 EACH WAY so Delta here I come. Given the schedule of events, I don't know when I'd get time to go anywhere for a dinner. Am planning to arrive on Thurs and leave Sunday morning. Dr. Bill Quote
