LANCECASPER
One glitch would be if you are going with the used 530W. What if, since some of these are 20 years old, it fails on you? Then you are facing a Garmin flat rate charge. How much longer will Garmin do the repairs on these? It depends on what their parts supplies are. Counting on getting a lot of your money back on the 530 might evaporate. I got a screaming deal on a IFD540 to 550 upgrade since I had owned a few Avidyne products, but I could live without the 550. You would be better off to look for a great deal on an IFD540 and not look back.
carusoam
Garmin is pretty good about announcing when they will turn off support for something... They do it all the time... Some standards of theirs last much longer than others... Getting a 430 upgraded to a 430W was a good idea for a while... Adding waas To a G1000 was good for a while... What other interfacing systems do you have? I am considering the IFD replacement but worried about interface issues with the rest of my installations. My ADS-B installation connects the GNS-530W to a GDL-88, FlightStream 210, and KT-76A. The GNS is also connected to a Century 2000 autopilot and a Century 360A HSI for coupled approaches. IFD540 + AXP322 (transponder ADSB out) + Skytrax100 (ADSB in) + Aspen E1000 Pro + KFC150... all work together beautifully
Missile=Awesome
Here is a counter point to everybody that wants to spend your money on the “latest and greatest”. The 530W GPS from Garmin is a GREAT box that functions fantastic with the G5 and autopilots. It is a GREAT GPS/COM Navigator. People on Mooneyspace are avionics snobs...Buy what makes sense for you. Good luck! Signed A VERY happy GNS530w owner...
