Pilot boy Posted July 14, 2020 Report Posted July 14, 2020 I have found some checklists in the download area on here and i do have the POH for the plane...but I'm wondering if there is a good checklist out there from a company that sends them laminated already to you etc. I'd also like to know if there are any digital ones available I could download into Foreflight or if they come included in the Performance Plus foreflight plan and if they are any good if they do come included! I find that taking the time to punch them in to ForeFlight and my IFD manually helps to embed them in my memory. I've probably typed, printed, and tapped my checklists half a dozen times now. 2 Quote

S.C. Posted July 15, 2020 Report Posted July 15, 2020 (edited) We all have our rituals, mine includes both electronic and laminated checklists. I find the laminated check list from Qref https://www.qref.com is the one that I use more when in flight. I use ForeFlight checklist for preflight and take-off. (It’s on my iPhone) I know it’s odd but it works. I too typed in the checklist into ForeFlight. I do like how ForeFlight can read the checklist to you, having that in my ear during run-up and just prior to take-off is really nice. Preflight, as ShuRugal stated it’s nice to see the items checked off. I also use the passenger safety brief in ForeFlight too, flying solo most of the time when I do take a passenger its good to be reminded with the check boxes. I like the Qref checklist in flight for the cruise profile. It’s easy to read and I don’t have to memorize the settings for 65% - 75% - 85% at the different altitudes. I use the Qref for landing and shutdown also. If I had to choose only one, I’d go with the Qref. Nicely laid out, with tabs to easily reference the stages of flight and emergency procedures. Added bonus, if fits neatly in the pocket of my knee board. Edited July 15, 2020 by S.C. 1 Quote
Hank Posted July 15, 2020 Report Posted July 15, 2020 I make my iwn checklist, starting with what's in the Owner's Manual. Then I update it for the installed avionics and adjust it to suit my own tastes and cockpit flow. Then print and laminate as needed. Makes it easy to update too. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted July 15, 2020 Report Posted July 15, 2020 +1 on building your own... +1 using the OM that matches your plane... +1 on updating it with input from the latest POH for your plane... +1 on updating your list with a new section at the front and back... for all the electronic devices that you use... don’t forget to turn them on... don’t forget and leave them running... +1 on having them in checklist form... best when used with flows, not as good when used as a todo list... +1 or having a paper version... +1 for making it electronic... Know that your paper version will try to escape... it may be found all the way in the baggage area... or slide between the glare shield and windshield in an unreachable way... PP thoughts only, not a CFI... Best regards, -a- 2 Quote
Ross Taylor Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 I have some paper ones that came with the plane, but ended up creating custom ones in Garmin Pilot. The Qref products look good, but they only have M20C listed in the Mooney options so they won't work for @Pilot boy and my E. 1 Quote
211º Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 A minor tweak to the laminated checklists...I print them on very thick stock paper - similar life to laminated, but I can hand write items that I want to add to the paper as edits for the next version. I’ll have to try the ForeFlight now that I finally synced the headset’s Bluetooth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro 1 Quote
carusoam Posted July 16, 2020 Report Posted July 16, 2020 Foreflight with sync’d headsets is cool... It tells you right where you are while about to cross a runway... I get a flashing warning with my WingX... that I never see... too busy looking out the window! Best regards, -a- Quote

Best regards, -a- I like this idea as if an have foreflight give me a check gear warning on approach verbally which I would like. I’m thinking I can set it for like 500 ft Quote

Ross Taylor Posted July 17, 2020 Report Posted July 17, 2020 Hey @Pilot boy - I just responded to your PM about sending you my Pilot checklist...and I'm happy to. But I see you seem to be a ForeFlight user and I'm not sure if my Garmin Pilot checklist will work, or if you could even open it. Do you use Pilot, too? Quote

I have a demo version of Garmin Pilot Quote
gsxrpilot Posted July 25, 2020 Report Posted July 25, 2020 I find the electronic checklists to be too slow to use. I much prefer laminated cards. I have a small stack of cards, laminated and color coded. I have one card for each separate flow. One for the preflight, before start, run-up, take-off, etc. I go through my flow and then flip to the appropriate card to verify I did everything. It's very much a CHECK list as opposed to a TO DO list. If I was taking out a rental plane, or flying a plane new to me... I'd go through the checklist as a TO DO list. But since it's my Mooney that I fly regularly, a CHECK list makes more sense to me. Do all the things... then look at the list to make sure everything was done and I didn't miss anything. This works best if the list/segment is short. Thus one card per flow. 3 Quote
