Oxygen systems/tanks

I have a system in the palne that hasn't been used for years and I'm guessing its 31 years old the lines have been capped do I need new tank or regulators go bad what is all involved, and how much could it cost, to get a sytem up and woking again?

 

It has a 115 cu tank now where do you recommend going for supplies?

I thik a hydrostat is due every ten years on the bottles unles they are composite.  Check that.

The cylinders have a life limit (15 years for the composite, longer for the steel/alu IIRC), and I think the composite cyclinder runs to about 1800USD.  Then you have a hydrostat test, every three or five years, and a regulator overhaul every 6 years.

That's the aircraft system taken care of, then you are going to need cunnulas and/or masks, and fill ups.  Over here in Europe it was a bit more difficult to get a fill, and when I could get them it was an outrageous price - like around 140USD, so I rented a big bottle from a gas supplier (approx 200USD for 3 years) and then get it filled to 3000psi for 80USD a time - it lasts me between 6 months and a year depending on how many people I take to altitude!

If you go down the route of getting your own bottle, you're also going to need a filling adapter, which depending on how complex or simple you have it is going to be another 50-500US

So it all adds up, but when you've got the kit, it makes high altitude a breeze.  Do learn your human factors and consider your 'Plan B', and get an Oximeter or similar too

If you have a steel tank, the legal life limit is 30 years and then requires replacement. I replaced mine last year for a price of just under $1000. And if you do not have the valves, canulas etc, Aerox can set you up with all you need for a few hundred. There are ways to save some. PM me if you like.

Not all steel tanks are the same. A 3ht is 24 year life and a 3aa is unlimited with 3 and 5 year tests respectively.
