cliffy Posted June 29, 2019 Report Posted June 29, 2019 One item missed a lot are the 4 bearings on the rudder pedal cross shaft right behind the firewall and below the rudder pedals. There are 4 AN3-7A bolts holding the bearings (actually bushings) in their housings that after 50 years get worn and loose allowing more side to side play in the nose wheel. You can see them if you pull the tunnel covers on the bottom above the exhaust and on the other side. 3 Quote

I'll definitely investigate next time, although the problem seems to have been fixed w/the shims so far. Edited June 29, 2019 by AlexLev Quote
cliffy Posted June 30, 2019 Report Posted June 30, 2019 Jack the airplane and wiggle the nose gear left and right and you should NOT see movement between the bushings and the cross shaft, If they are real loose the bolt heads will spin in place with just finger torque. Quote

For a quick test, have a friend push the tail down. Just don't stand up into the prop either way, those things are hard . . . . 2 Quote
