I have the cluster switch on the yoke consisting of the ap disconnect switch the cws switch, and the manual/electric trim split switch.  I need to replace the split switch. The Honeywell part no. I have is 200-02960-000.  


 I also have speedbrakes on the airplane with their own switch on the panel. 


Question I have is this. Since I have to replace the split switch should I also put the speed brake switch on the yoke? This would be an opportune time it seems. If so do I need the entire cluster replaced base and all the rest or will the speedbrake switch firt on my existing base.  There is nothing wrong with the rest. Only the split switch needs to be replaced.  


Any part numbers would be appreciated.

For your operational question:  It is an excellent idea to get the speed brake switch onto the yoke.  It will keep you from looking inside the aircraft for the switch when you may be at a time to be looking outside (approaching the airport environment).  On the otherhand, if you can operate the switch without looking for it, then it is no big deal....My switch is on the yoke, and it allows me to easily turn them on or off as I need to burn off just a little more energy.


Unfortunately, I can't help with the technical questions....

If you are going to put the speedbrake switch on the yoke I would recommend to have installed on the right arm of the yoke. This way it will not be accidentally activated when trying to push the PTT. I had them accidentaly deployed in icing conditions trying for the PTT. They ice-up and only retracted half way to slow me down to make me think if I was going to ditch on my way to CYYT from LPAZ. I performed high G turns to finally get them down. Not a nice experience at night.

Hey Jose', good practical advice based or experience!  Is there a part no you have for speed brake switch?

I recently had the speed brake switch moved to the yoke cluster switch assembly. I my case I had it mounted on the left side of the cluster switch, where it is hard to hit accidently.  Very easy to use in that position, but it takes a deliberate thumb motion to push it.  My PTT switch is on the panel side of the cluster, so it is not easy to mix them up. My prior Mooney also had the speed brake switch mounted on the cluster switch, but facing the pilot, and it was too esy to inadvertently hit it.  I also once had speed brakes deployed while desending through ice, and one of them froze into the extended position (this was the orignial vacuum type), with one retracting, and I could not cycle them until I hit much warmer air. The icing layer was thin, or so I thought, and I learned a lession about not using them in those conditions.  Actually, I didn't have a real control problem with one up, one down, but it is not something I would do on purpose. Anticipating the question: the one that was down also froze into position, and so I couldn't raise it to match the other side until I hit the warm air. This may be why Mooney moved on to the electric speed brakes (Also it was hard on the vacuum system).

allsmiles,just a suggustion....that split switch is expensive ..I have heard the avionic guys complain about bad batches of switches from honeywell...it is possible to unsolder the 6 wires to it ,dissasemble the switch and clean the contacts,or spray contact cleaner....good luck..kp couch

I would just put a small lever toggle switch instead of the push switch. This way it is hard to mistake with the PTT and you would know the deployment position without looking at the indicator or by the window.
