Hey guys, quick question reguarding these products.  If you were to get both would that eliminate the requirement for backup instruments?  Anyone know rough ballpark for having a 1000 Pro PFD installed?

I've been looking for similar equipment for my plane. I would think that it also depends on your autopilot system and what you want the system to do for you. As for pricing I've  found they've been all over the place.

I have seen 11 AMU for the 1000 PFD pro....from what I understand if I were to get that and then the 1000 MFD the MFD could revert and give you attitude, altimeter, & airspeed if the PFD were to fail.  Out here at Stinson they do the installs of these and it has really sparked my interest.

N4352H very nice panel....so you still kept the A/S, Attitude, and Altimeter.  Did you have to even though you have dual independant ADAHRS?  I would love to do this to my plane as its very similar to what I have been flying in the military for the past 6 years.  I love the glass cockpit of the T-6 and KC-135.  It would be so nice to get rid of the vacuum system.

I have the Pro PFD 1000 in my plane, but not the MFD.  Honestly, with my 430, my iPad, and WingX I feel I get similar functionality and don't need to spend the money.  My uncle just put the Aspen PFD and MFD in his turbo Arrow and I must admit it looks like a really nice setup!  I think the MFD is around 8 AMU, but I may be wrong on that figure.

I understand that the latest software upgrade eliminated the need for any backup instruments IF you get the combination of PFD/MFD that will revert and the backup battery installed.

They work with legacy King A/Ps and all you need is a certified GPS input for navigation. When I talked with Peter at the MAPA convention last fall, it was suggested that Aspen offer a GPS solution in addition to the their current products to provide an alternative to the Garmin x30W or nothing problem. Sounds like their teaming up with BendixKing is an effort to do just that.

Ray, you might get Bevan-Rabell at KICT to give you a quote...I know when I casually inquired a couple of years ago they were very competitive, and they do top-notch work.  Getting it done locally (if the price is right) can pay off down the road with future business, in addition to minimizing hassle for any warranty work that might need to be done.

I don't have buyer's remorse and I spent months researching, but while the dual ADAHRS 2000 system is great, it came at a heavy price. I beleive the best bang for the buck is what Todd did or have a Garmin hand held with Nexrad and just buy the EFD Pro 1000. This really is the most bang for the buck. It does more in one fell swoop than any combination of Aspen or other products....for the dollar.

The Aspen 2000 system, when installed with the optional external Emergency Backup Battery, has been FAA approved to remove the mechanical airspeed and altimeter instruments.

For now, a mechanical attitude indicator must be retained to mitigate the effect of a pitot blockage from also simultaneously affecting both AHRS solutions.  We anticipate FAA approval to remove the mechanical AI later this summer in conjunction with a software release that mitigates the pitot influence on the AHRS during this certification corner case.

Some might say I'm a little biased on this subject, but I believe the Aspen 2000 system offers more features, compatibility, redundancy, expandability and value than any competing system.  Even better, Aspen is currently offering $2000 is instant savings on the dual AHRS 2000 system through the end of June.  This is one of the very best promotions we've ever offered - I suspect it is unlikely you will ever be able to get a better deal than this.
