DavidA Posted July 28, 2018 Report Posted July 28, 2018 Hello all, I am looking into a buying into a Mooney 231 it has 2 items that will have to be addressed tank strip and seal ADS/B solution So what are the best options and cost associated with them. The aircraft has a Garmin Panel including a 480 and MX 20 so we have wx data from XM just need out. Thanks in advance DavidA Quote
DonMuncy Posted July 28, 2018 Report Posted July 28, 2018 There have been about a zillion posts about ADSB compliance. Plenty of opinions if you search. Tank resealing depends on where you are. East coast and northern, gives you choices. Southwest, look at Houston Tank Specialists. Quote
CaptRJM Posted July 29, 2018 Report Posted July 29, 2018 Garmin is offering a software update on the 480W to output position data. When I looked at it for a relative 2 years ago, Garmin stayed it was only for their transponders. Don’t know if that has been modified to include other manufacturers. Quote
helitim Posted July 30, 2018 Report Posted July 30, 2018 My tank reseal at Troutdale Oregon was just over 10K but, a few additional repairs had to be made due to damaged rivets from a previous repair attempt. ADS-B is going to be between about 2K - 5K depending on what you choose. 1 Quote
INA201 Posted July 30, 2018 Report Posted July 30, 2018 From what I’ve seen is go with a professional good reputation sealing shop or get bladders. If you don’t get it done right it can be a perpetual headache from what I here..... I’ve got bladders and a Garmin 345. Prob looking at 17k for that particular combo but I’m very pleased with both fwiw. Quote
RobertGary1 Posted July 30, 2018 Report Posted July 30, 2018 Do the tanks really need a full reseal or just an ordinary patch? Be aware with bladders some like them and some hate them. I’m no fan of them myself. -Robert Quote

It’s patch or reseal; preferably by someone with a proven track record and with a warranty as mentioned above.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

They did a good job and stand behind their work. Find out how old the tank sealant is, how many leaks and how bad they are. If they are dripping / staining in multiple spots and the tank sealant is 15-20 years old then a re-seal is the way to go and probably cheaper than trying a patch job then doing a full re seal in a year, I learned the hard way. If there are a few small leaks in easy to reach spots try a patch but make sure to go to Advanced if you are on the west coast, Weep No More if you are in the middle or another shop that has done A LOT of Mooney tanks. There is a spot in FL too but I have heard mixed reviews on them. I have the GNS 480 & MX 20 as well and decided on the GTX-345 for adsb and am very happy with the result. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted July 31, 2018 Report Posted July 31, 2018 I assume, that if you were thinking of converting to long range tanks, doing it during a reseal would only be a incremental increase of the cost? Quote
DavidA Posted August 1, 2018 Author Report Posted August 1, 2018 lots of good info, Thank you all. David A Quote
