PeytonM Posted July 26, 2018 Report Posted July 26, 2018 Any suggestions for a good set of pliers that will last? I have a pair now, but they do a lousy job of cutting twisted wire. Thanks in advance.

Hank Posted July 26, 2018 Report Posted July 26, 2018 Just avoid the cheap Chinese ones, mine lasted about six oil changes (the only safety wire they ever twisted or cut).

DonMuncy Posted July 27, 2018 Report Posted July 27, 2018 Back in the 1960s, I bought a used pair of safety wire pliers at a surplus aircraft supply in Tulsa OK, presumably because they were no longer serviceable for use in the aircraft industry. The judicious use of a center punch on the center pivot post tightened them up, and re-bucking the rivets holding the twister device in place, improved them. Admittedly I do not use them a whole lot, but I still prefer them to a new pair I bought 5 or 6 years ago. I don't remember what I paid for them, but I doubt it was over $5.
Guest Posted July 27, 2018 Report Posted July 27, 2018 For the little bit of safety wiring the average owner needs to do, I’d suggest a duckbill pliers and a side cutter. Clarence

Clarence That would be painful for my oil filter, where it needs to be about 5" between filter and attach point. 1
MB65E Posted July 27, 2018 Report Posted July 27, 2018 Get the standard one direction Milbar’s. Even milbar reversing pairs always fail. I’ve been thru two of them in 18 years. Some of the older MFG’s are really great and buttery smooth if you can find good used set on eBay from an old tech -Matt
