Do most of them not have that? Is it just a drilled 5/8" bolt? Does it need a new washer when it is replaced? If so, do you have a P/N? HRM Posted June 6, 2018 Report Posted June 6, 2018 16 minutes ago, DualRatedFlyer said: Why? What is the purpose of the split? It's the 'crush' in 'crush gasket'. It seals the part against any irregularities between the sealing surfaces. Copper is soft, and the original hight-heat resistant material. Remember, 'one drop of oil can coat a plane'. Quote

So, I'll rephrase my question. Has anybody ever found something on the suction screen and didn't also find something in the filter? A few years back, I saw hardly any metal in the oil filter, but this is what I found in the screen... I was suffering from low oil pressure... So the answer is yes, it is possible. :) 2 1 Quote

I GREATLY appreciate the close-up of the plug with the crush washer and the drilled head--I knew it looked like that, but didn't have a clear picture in my head until I saw your post. The Lyc manual implies that you only pull that screen if there is no spin-on filter. Your discovery suggests an annual inspection of it. Quote
carusoam Posted June 11, 2018 Report Posted June 11, 2018 Don, Dmevans mentioned two tappets... those are the things whose surfaces ride on the cam, that ultimately activate the valves via the push rods(?) They have a tendency to get corroded surfaces similar to the cam surface... the rough tappets running around on the rough cam lobe surface start cutting into each other... I have seen the rough surfaced tappets in pics around here... but hadn’t seen one broken like this that I remember... PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... Best regards, -a- Quote
