Marauder Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 1 hour ago, PTK said: Nice marketing material of archaic hardware. But they deserve and I do give them credit for being honest: “...in aviation, everything has an expiration date, and avionics, in particular, grow outdated as improvements in technology and safety become the new industry standard...” Don’t expect me to pay for expired goods. Give me a brand new and upgraded box that’s worthy of my consideration. I’ll be the first in line. Glad you qualified the rules. Based on your definition of "archaic", anyone who bought a Garmin GNS 430 in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and heaven forbid those morons who bought one in 2012 bought "archaic" Garmin technology. Why would I say this? Because using your math, a product introduced and not replaced in 10 years (Aspen was introduced in 2008) is "archaic". So, using my "archaic" math (I have moved on from an abacus), Aspen still has 3 years to introduce something new to avoid not being like the market leader and selling "archaic" technology. I get that right? Quote
PTK Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 Not quite. You are confusing things...again. Do you want to talk about displays or gps/nav/comm? Aspen doesn’t have a gps/nav/comm. The original G500 was introduced in 2009 and the txi in 2017. That’s 8 years and G just replaced it with the brand new clean sheet txi. But in those 8 years it saw, I think, two major software upgrades with the most recent in 2016. Aspen is stuck on a 10 year old box! Can you say archaic? If not can you say stale? How about old? Over the hill? Long, very very long in the tooth? Outmoded, old fashioned, behind the times? Pick one. This is what someone is buying when they buy an Aspen today, in my opinion. And please get off the name calling because it also is getting old. Most, including myself, find it rude and arrogant. No one is a moron. No one. We don’t all need to share the same opinions but we all need to be respectful of other points of view. I believe I learned this in pre-school. Quote
Andy95W Posted February 9, 2018 Report Posted February 9, 2018 I believe I learned in preschool not to belittle another person's choice in spouse, airplane, or avionics. 1 Quote
