If folks are still interested in a Mid Atlantic Mooney Fly-In & Formation Clinic, before I go any further setting this up I need to have firm commitments from participants.  Tentative dates for the Clinic / Mooney Fly-in are July 11th and 12thHorizon Aviation Services will host us at the CPK airport. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KCPK

Based on the fact that we’d like to get at least 4 formation sorties per participant, we’ll need to limit the number of formation flying participants to 4.  (We need 2 as a minium for obvious reasons)   There’s no limit on the number of "Fly-In" participants and they can attend the ground events if they wish.

Please send me a PM and click on the poll to confirm you intend to come and your desired level of participation (Form clinic, clinic ground events only, fly-in only).  Once I get firm numbers I will be able to determine exact costs, but it shouldn’t be too much.

I've spoken with both the FSDO (FAA) and contacted F.A.S.T.   Good news - There are no legal issues or FAR limitations that would prohibit us from holding a "Mooney Flyers" formation clinic.  But All clinic participants (flying or ground only) will be required to sign a liability release waiver prior to beginning the clinic.

Mooney flyers,

Couple of updates on the Mid-Atlantic Mooney Fly-in...

1. CPK airport authority has reserved all of the municipal facilities to accommodate our group on 11 & 12 July.

2. Horizon aviation and Tidewater Flight Center at CPK has agreed to host the group.  They have plenty of ramp space and have agreed to provid "Full Service" fuel at Self Service prices. Wink

3. I am negotiating with a local Hotel for a group rate for those planning on spending the night on Fri or Sat...More to follow

4. Since I will be occupied most of the time with the formation clinic, if anyone is interested in hosting events during the day (maint. discussion, airplane wash etc. or you have an idea for an activity, please volunteer or let me know)

5. If you plan on attending please let me know either via PM or at midatlanticflyin@yahoo.com

Looking forward to a fun weekend!  I hope to see lots of Mooney flyers turn out!

Mooney Flyers who plan on participating in either the Formation flying or ground school portion of the fly in activites here is the tentative Schedule of Events (SOE).

For those you just want to fly in, hang out, and talk Mooneys I'm still working out the details on activities.  Tidewater Flight Center has offered to provide an airplane wash and wax services for a small fee...The owner mentioned something about girls in bikini's....but I make no promisesWink

Anyway...it should be a good time.  I'm still looking for a volunteer or two too help coordinate ground activities once I get a program put together.  Please let me know if anyone wants to help out...it should be pretty low stress.

I've recieved several emails in regards to the fly in.  In order to answer everyone at once...Really there are two events going on simultaneously.  A formation clinic and a Fly-In.  For those who are interested in participating in the Fly-In but don't intend to participate in the formation clinic...that's no problem, we still want you to come and The FLY IN IS 100% FREE ($5.00 for lunch if you want it on Saturday) and if you spend the night the discounted hotel rates apply

For Mooney flyers that just want to come out for the FREE FLY-IN, I'm working with the local flight schools and maintenance shops to come up with a schedule of events for FLY-IN only participants.  I hope to have a Mooney maintenance Seminar and plane wash set up for Saturday.  I'll post a firm schedule of events for fly-in only participants very soon.

Hope this clears it up...

Fellow Mooniacs,

Unfortunately I have to Cancel the July Fly-in / formation Clinic.  My full time job is as a special assistant to a 4 star general and military commitments shifted facilitating the cancelation.

I apologize but hopefully 6 weeks notice should afford everyone the opportunity to cancel any pre existing reservations without any problems.

If interest is still there we can look to re-schedule in Sept or November.  The weather will be nicer then anyway.

Darn!  I was really looking forward to that weekend but I understand completely.  I'm not sure I'll be able to get out there later in the year but I am still very interested in doing this.

Aww, shoot. Well, keep my name in the pot for November, please!

Or September. Or whenever! Thanks so much for the brilliant idea, and thanks for being willing to aim for another time. I'm really looking forward to it.

Thanks for the advance notice George, and we'll all look forward to the Formation Flying Clinic later in the year.  In the meantime, is there any interest from the rest of the "Mid-Atlantic Mooney Fliers" to meet for lunch that weekend at a central airport?  If so, I'll go ahead and arrange a reservation with an FBO/Restuarant/Field that is suitable.  I figure a field in DE, MD, VA, or NC.  Any interest?  This is of course for those that are not going to Lake Taheo for the Vintage Mooney Group Fly In - though that looks like a lot of fun too.

Reply back with your name if you are interested in attending a Mid Atlantic Mooney Fly in for lunch:  Just copy and paste the list and post - also put your reccomendations for airfields.  I'm suggesting two places I know of where there are good restaurants on the fields and plenty of parking.  I have no problem arranging the fly in to an airport I've never been to, especially if it looks like we'll get more people - in VA or NC.  This is of course open to other aircraft as well.

Seth, I might still be interested, but it would be easier on me if we moved it to Sunday somewhere.  As it stands now, I still plan to head to the east coast early that week (from KS) and work my way down to FL for a wedding on the 18th.  If the fly-in lunch moves to Sunday, I suppose I could leave on Saturday and start working that direction...otherwise I probably won't leave until Monday or Tuesday.

If I'm the only one interested in Sunday then don't worry about me, though!  I'm open to any location as I've never flown in that part of the country.

Hi Mid-Atlantic Mooniac's.

Yes,  go ahead and informally organize your fly-in for that weekend.  Just a sign up list will do.  It's that simple.  Maybe pick an airport that has a restaurant initially and meet there.   It's not really about the food at all.  It's about everyone having a place to fly their Mooneys and meet to just talk about it all.   It's so good to actually meet the folks you've been conversing with via the forum and learn from each other in-person.  Those that can make it will and the rest will make it another time.

Take care and happy Mooney flying!

Whoops!  Something I forgot to mention previously.  Many times, we [VMG] can negotiate a fuel discount at our fly-in location.  We have had luck doing that with 15-20 Mooney's or more.  Pick your destination and communicate with the Avgas supplier there.  We've had discounts of .20 to .30 p/gal.

Any news on a rescheduled fly-in, and especially, the formation flying clinic?

Thanks!

Not to nag, but---- I'm still so hopinig to hear you have rescheduled the Virginia Beach formation flying clinic and fly-in.  It sounded like such a fine way to spend a weekend. I'd be happy to provide any leg-work necessary to get the show on the road.

Thank you for thinking of it.

Gents I'd love too, but I'm in the midst of my refersher F-18 training prior to going overseas to take command of a squadron.  So right now, unfortunately, it's just not gunna happen.

I searched for an old thread regarding tachometers for another Mooney Space member and came accross this thread.

First off, George, I haven't emailed in a while and wanted to say hello - hope all is doing well with your command.

Secondly, as we near closer to your return back to the lower 48, any chance you're still interested in holding a clinic?  I'm sure there's still interest.

Be safe.

-Seth
